Show r PAGE 24 THE ZEPHYRNOVEMBER 89 . Comes to Moab Recycling its a matter of economics and common sense zeke and maralee francis Four Comers. Design: by Audrey Graham (across from the post office) Limited recycling opportunities are becoming available in Moab and the future looks bright for slowing down the input to our brimming landfill. A couple, of enterprizing Moab Individuals are bravely stepping Into the unpredictable recycling business. With our support (whether we "get anything out of it" directly or not), these folks can hopefully v .v help us ease our garbage burdens. Dale Parriott, long time Moab resident and machine shop owner, took over the operation of Sprint Salvage over a year ago. He hopes to enlarge his Intake of scrap metals and salvage while helping county residents clean up their properties. Now donJ start thinking that you dont have anything to contribute to this operation. Parriott takes all kinds of junk that you were probably planning to haul up to the dump. And most of the time hell give you cold hard cash for Itl OR hell even come and haul It all away for youl Parriott takes aluminum cans (.30lb), brass and copper (dont junk that old sink without checking what it or its faucets are made of), cars, bikes, toy wagons, all appliances, and old batteries. He can even arrange a salvage crew to come to your back- -; forty and pick up the stuff for you. For FREE. Parriott has a press which crushed over 900 tons of old autos in the last two years. That saves ALOT of dump space. If you have an old eyesore Bulck sitting around that has a title, Parriott will haul it and, depending on the weight and amount of salvagable parts, will pay you up to $100.00 for it. If your old eyesore is untitled it gets a bit more complex legally and Dale may even have to charge you to get.lt outa here. But at least it can find new life somewhere else that way! You can take items to Parriotts Sprint Salvage, 981 Holyoak Lane on any weekday 5. "Weve cleaned up so much recently that some people think we arent open when we actually are. Come on in!" If you come by on a weekend you can leave things by the gate to be collected on Monday. You wont get rich at any rate since, as Parriot points out, "neither am I. But youre doing your part, a good feeling. 17 if you need more info or to arrange a salvage crew for Call your home or business area. In Telluride the trailer is set up near a school which helps run the operation and makes a little money while learning about the Importance of recycling. Some of the profits also help pay a recycling coordinator who works out the details. Either one or several community organizations could also share the work (and profits). The trailers Johnson provides sro divided Into many separate boxes, each holding a different recyclable, color of glass etc. He Is even able to take computer and white paper and soon will work on plastics. This may be a good project for us since Johnson says he sees several Moabites at his recycling business in Grand Junction every week. If we care enough to drive that far for a good cause surely we would be supportive of some local organizations and schools!
