Show PAGE 3 THE ZEPHYRAUGUST 89 WESTERN ASSOCIATION OF LAND USERS ... P.O. Box 783 Moab, UT 84532 WESTERN PEOPLE! We need your support! Do you realize what is slowly being done to our public lands? We and our ancestors have developed this land. We have built roads; farms, ranches, mines, drilled oil wells, etc. with a considerable amount of hardship and sacrifice. National Parks, Wilderness, and other Federal Government programs have withdrawn huge amounts of land from multiple use. 39 Vi million acres of the 11 western states is in Wilderness and 32.S million acres is proposed for wilderness. Wilderness only benefits the hiker and backpacker, no one else. Make no mistake about it, wilderness advocates wont be satisfied until they have it all! Now Congress has legislation before it to do away with the 1872 Mining Law, plus put exorbitant fees and bonds on the mining people. If this legislation passes, the small miner is finished. And if anyone thinks that tourism and biking or hiking are going to take the g place of mining, milling and other industrial jobs, they are sadly mistaken! Multiple use has worked very well since the West was settled in the 1800s and is still working today for the benefit of all the people, not just a few. The Western Association of Land Users invites the silent majority of the Western people to become involved with us in preserving the multiple use laws, 1872 Mining Law, and in opposing any more wilderness designation of Federal lands. Please attend our meetings and support the association, so Congress will know how we high-payin- feel. Our meetings are the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers.
