Lunch guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Bernhisel on Tuesday were their son, Jay, his wife, Janet, and their children, Steven and John; Mr. and Mrs. Dick Jones an(l their daughters, Jenifer and Kristin. Both families are from Fort Bragg, Calif. The Jay Bernhisels are spending the summer in Salt Lake City and brought their friends to Cache Valley for the day. They visited a mink farm and the egg plant in Franklin and the Cache Valley Dairy plant at Amalga. At Salt Lake City they toured Temple Square, attended a concert, and enjoyed seeing Promised Valiev. Nada Wilkins and her children, Cory and Valerie, have returned to their home in Sacramento, Calif., following a visit of two weeks with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lindsay Rawlins. Mr. and Mrs. Rawlins were very pleased last week when Alex and Marie Hash-ousk- y of Springfield, Va., came to see them. A son was travelling with them also. They had come to Cache Valley where their daughter, Nadya, is a student at Utah State University. Nadya accompanied her parents and her brother as they continued their vacation trip. Judy Rawlins who is employed by the IRS in Washington, D.C., as a secretary, lives in the Hashousky home. Mrs. Dorothy Rawlins, wife of Ariel Rawlins, Walla Walla, Wash., has been visiting relatives and friends in the Lewiston area. Mrs. Alice Hendricks Last, also of Walla Walla, accompanied Mrs. Rawlins. Thora and Clyde Uttledike held a party at their home for Dean and Juanita and Lewis and Vaudis Boman. The Bomans are leaving soon for an LDS mission to North Dakota. About 40 friends and neighbors were invited for the pot luck and steak supper. Willard Jessop played his guitar and sang and led the group in singing. The APMIA and the young women of Lewiston Second Ward enjoyed an outing at Downata Hot Springs on Tuesday. A couple of times during the evening it became necessary to clear the pool of swimmers until the electrical storm had moved on. Vernal and Kathy Williams and their son, David, of Salt Lake (Sty, spent the weekend in Lewiston with his mother, Mrs. Ethel Williams. Mrs. Ronald Newby and her twin daughters, Monica and Megan, and her sister, Nancy Hampton, all of Salt Lake City, visited their grandmother, Mrs. Williams, one day last week. BEET PICKLES Cook until tender. When beets begin to be tender add salt (as you would for that many potatoes). Peel in cold water. Save juice from beets. 1 cup juice cup vinegar 1 cup sugar 3 tablespoons whole mixed pickling spices (take out red peppers) Cook. Boil 15 minutes after spice is added. Place beets in sterile jars and pour the boiling liquid over. The Trenton ladies softball team has taken champion- ship in the Richmond Utah Stake. They will be beginning their region playoffs Wednesday, Aug. 6, at 8:30 p.m. at Preston, Idaho, and will continue through that weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Lew P. Allsop traveled this past month to the Salt Lake Airport to see' their son, Michael Andersen, off on a flight to Italy where he will serve as a missionary for the LDS church. Mr. and Mrs. Jay C. Andersen of North Logan are Michaels parents. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Allred of Jerome, Idaho were here for the Merrill reunion held at Crystal Springs. The Robinsons stayed two nights in Idaho Falls and one night each at Yellowstone Park's Canyon Village and at Teton Village. They and their children are moving to Logan soon where Dean is receiving training at the Logan hospital and Juanita works at Gias Italian Restaurant. Combine syrup, water, vinegar, sugar and soy sauce. Combine flour, salts and pepper; mix. Dredge meat in flour mixture. Melt butter in heavy fry pan. Add meat and brown on all sides, turning as needed. Add 1 cup of the reserved liquid. Cover and simmer gently until meat is tender, about 1 hour. Uncover, add remaining liquid and continue heating. Add pineapple chunks, green pepper and tomatoes, mix carefully and cook just until vegetables are heated, 3 to 5 minutes. Serve with rice.
