Student by Returns Pat Woodbury People shook their heads in disbelief when Wrong Way Corrigan headed for California and wound up in Ireland. Ireland. Well. I pulled a stunt this week that most local people will find almost as hard to believe. I started out for Newton and wound up in Richmond. Dont ask me how I did it, I could never retrace my steps, even if I wanted to. But Ill tell you one thing, it wasnt hard to do. It all started when I hearted out to see Leda Sutherland and Annette Benson in Newton. My husband gave me elaborate instructions as to how to get there from our apartment down on the Island in Logan, I had been to Newton, but evidently I hadnt paid much attention as to how I got there. I think my troubles began when turned onto the Benson Logic told me that somewhere along the line I should run into Newton, so I just kept going, and going and going and going, around in circles. I think. So much for logic. I was lost. I road instead of the Cache Junction road. I dont know what caused me to do it. but tor some reason happened to glance down at my gas gauge. To my great alarm it appeared that I had been running on fumes for the past twenty miles. Knowing how my truck guzzles gas I suddenly realized that I was in a most desperate situation. Swallowing.my pride, what little I had left, that is. I stopped and asked a kind lady, just exactly where I was and how long she thought it would take me to get where I wanted to he. She confirmed my worst suspicions by indicating that the situation was hopeless. She suggested that the best thing for me to do was head back to Smithfield for gas and then try again. I dont think that she could believe that I had gotten so far off the track. I ' Anyway I took her advice and headed back into Smithfield. but everytime I took what I thought would be a 'shortcut, it wound up being the longest way possible. The rest is just a haze. I don't know where I was or how I got where I did but about an hour and a half after my departure time I came upon familiar territory, Richmond. I coughed and sputtered back into Smithfield and almost had to push my weary vehicle into the filling station. If was a scenic ride, but I had ulcers by the time it was over. I think I'd better get me a blood hound, or a seeing eye dog. or something. FromTour . taaving the bustling city we flew to Lucerne.
