Show Scene 77 Looks Forward Logan To THURSDAY, JUNE 2, 1977 New Shopping Complex Special to the Citizen by Alan Bird This summer residents of Cache Valley and the surrounding area will be able to enjoy and use one of the most exciting shopping centers in Utah. By some people's judgment, The Emporium could be the biggest event downtown for a decade. The Emporium is a dream fast coming true for three Logan men, Von Stocking, Don White and Ray Malouf. Together they have purchased the building, formulated the plans and have seen the construction begin on the million dollar center. NOW WELL on its way to completion, The Emporium has been designed to be a theme center, oriented around fun, food and atmosphere. The building itself, located in the old J. C. Penney building at 55 North Main in Logan, will have a turn of the century theme featuring a new brick facade, arched, recessed and canopied windows and entrance, with a central open area going up to a skylight in the roof. It will have the old look of Trolley Square in Salt Lake City, with a dinner type in and take over when J. C. Penney moved, but the development of The Emporium has quelled any rooms that is reminiscent of Grandmas Kitchen or the Print Shop Restaurant in Arrow Press Square, also in Salt Lake City. The front facade of the old J. C. Penney building will be replaced by a new old style facade with a revolving door at the main street location. Many people feared that The Emporium are local businesses that are relocating their current business operation. When The Emporium opens, visitors and customers will again have a walkway from the rear parking lot to the Main Street business entrances and then will be able to again have public ing a large restaurant, a and salad sandwich soup .shop, ice cream store and a quick food shop. The size of 'the shops will be about tne same as the average downtown business, the largest being 4,000 square feet and in the middle of the downtown areas most important block, it will be a focal point for many exciting events coming in the future. MANY PEOPLE feel that The Emporium will become a focal point, not only for "revitalizing" the appearance of downtown Logan, but also for significant events. The Emporium is already adding to current construction and building in the downtown area by creating a pleasant shopping atmosphere and since it is located directly across Main Street from the Logan Tabernacle such thought. About 80 per cent of those planning to locate in restaurant with banquet and situated restrooms available that were a part of the old J. C. Penney operation. outside interests would come When completed Hie Emporium will have 40,000 square feet of floor space, with about 12,000 square feet on the main floor. 33,000 square feet will be available for leasing to tenants with 20 the smallest about shops now in the planning stages. All in all, there will be five different levels with at least four or five firms being food oriented, includ v' ' i fi 4 $! i ; ! 600, square feet.
