Turning a fluorescent larppon and off will shorten the life of the tube. Therefore, it is better to leave a fluorescent fixture on for up to 15 minutes rather than switch it on and off. If it will not be needed for longer than 15 minutes turn it off. Regular incandescent bulbs, however, should be turned off when not in use. Three-wa- y bulbs in table lamps can conserve energy if they are turned on higher wattages for reading and lower for conversation. Small wattage bulbs should be used in conversation and dinir g areas. Outdoor security lighting should be put on a timer or photocell unit that turns it off automatically.
