Different models use different amounts of electricity to do the same job. The most efficient models operate on about half the power required by less efficient models to do the same amount of cooling. Until recently, one had to know a lot about air conditioners to know the difference. Fortunately, there is now an easy, accurate way fa you to compare the y of units before buying. By determining each models Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER), you can compare the amount of electricity the different units consume. For example, a unit rated at EER 9.3 costa about a third less to operate than a unit with the same Btu cooling capacity but rated at EER 6.
