Show MAY THURSDAY, 13, rAGEI Plans Are Different For Now Luxury Pullman miEMMUMA 10)10 cars, giant totem poles, etchings by Queen Elizabeth, and breeches worn by George Washington formed part of the centerpiece for the nation's Centennial birthday bash. These items and thousands more were included in the 1876 Centennial Exhibition which filled 249 buildings and covered 285 acres in Philadelphia's Fairmount Park, the National Geographic Society says. The great show was officially opened by President Grant on May 10 and took the country hy storm. This year, the style and tempo of the extravaganza come to life again on the same date when the Smithsonian Institution opens its own version of the 1876 Cen- tennial Exhibition in the newly restored Arts and Industries Building in Washington, D. C. MANY OF THE 25,000 objects that will be shown were on view in Philadelphia 600 years ago. They were part of the 42 freight carloads of materials that came to Washington after the exhibition closed and 'ormed the major part of the Smithsonians early collec-ion- s. r Included the among iriginal items displayed are owering Haida Indian totem xdes from the Pacific North-ves- t, two huge ornate urns m loan from the Ren wick Gallery, and the Italian narble fountain that stood in he middle of the Horticul-oirHall in Philadelphia. al Faithful MTORU mm Y TCC 1 oTHMi 25 Throughout The Store - All New fabrics -- OO000.0000OOOOO00000000OO 700 BOLTS REGULAR STOCK Q let Come Double Knit P Q 1st Served Basis POLYESTER OFF qO BIG SAVINGS ON ALL FABRICS AND ACCESSORIES facsimiles or Krinkle Gauze Gabardine Liberty Bells have been YOUR ADVERTISING DOLLAR far-ou- t materials as salt, wheat, Double Knit ONE BELL WAS made from 300 pounds of tabacco, Single Knits Cotton Print!
