MAY 6, 1976 -- -- IHIessM Smithfields Bicentennial Health Day activities are scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 13, 14, and 15. Mr. and Mrs. Burt Moulton and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wamick serve as for the event revolving around the theme, From Heritage to Horizons. The Health Days festivities began 51 years ago with a health project begun in the Summit school. Seeking a goal for every child in the school to have O.K. teeth, school principal Sadie McCraken, spearheaded the project and worked with Dr. Jarvis, a local dentist to make certain that every child in the school had been throughly checked by the dentist and then outlined a dental program for them. Near the end of the school year a proclamation from President Coolidge stating that every community schedule a Health Day. McCraken felt this would be a perfect time to announce the results of the O.K. teeth project. A parade was held complete with a harmonic band. Carrying out y Is a crusader "theme the 500. : boys and girls wore white capes and caps with banners stressing their O.K. teeth. Since that time Health Days has been carried out with queens, parades, and concessions. Many clubs and individuals are participating as follows: Parade and Outstanding Citizen, Lions and Lady Lions Club; City Float, Variety Club; Dairy Princess Contest, Dairy Wives; Queen Contest, Epsilon Sigma Alpha ; Rodeo and Races, Summit Saddlers; Float Judges, Book LaRee Club, Publicity, Theoda Downs; Dance Festival, Summit School and PTA; Regresh-mentCommunity Club; Color Guard and Flag Display, American Legion; Pancake Breakfast, Second Ward Elders Quorum; ball game and sports, Lonnie s. Loveday; art show, Historical Heritage Society; movie, Lloyd Meyer; swimming, Glen Oli verson; and Pana-ram- a of the Past II, Oral Ballam and Theoda Downs. The Summit School Festival set for May 13 in the Sky View Gym will begin the Clutching their roses and with a mixture of tears and smiles the Health Day Queen and her attendants were rrowned last Thursday evening. ' festivities with their "Portraits of America. On Friday, May 14, in thd Sky View Auiditorium at 8 p.m. Panarama of the Past II will be presented featuring events people and views from the past. Keeping to the From Heritage to theme Smithfleld will Horizons, not only be viewed in the present, but also looking to .the horizons of the future as a new outstanding citizen will be named for 1976. The Health Days festival will continue through Saturday, May 15, starting off with a chuckwagon breakfast being served from 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the First-Secon-d Ward located on 2nd So. 1st West. A menu of ham, eggs, pancakes and a drink will be served for $1.10 for small portions and $1.60 for larger appetites. The Bicentennial Parade featuring the Health Queen, Kristy Cantwell and royalty will begin at 10 a.m. Also featured will be the 1976 Outstanding Citizen, floats, bands, marching units with special interest on 200 years in America. Concessions will.be at the Park with an art show scheduled from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. giving a bicentennial salute to Mary Teasdel in the Public Library, Utah's foremost woman artist. The Little Buckaroo Rodeo will get under way at 1 p.m. in the Forrester Acres Rodeo grounds. Also set for 1 p.m. will be the Queen of the Cooks contest at the new Smithfield Stake Center as a part of the Cache Dairy City Festival. A free movie is also set for that afternoon. A highlight' of the Health Days activities will be a ' ribbon cutting ceremony and dedication of the Forrester Acres Softball Park at 6:45 p.m. Baseball and Softball games are scheduled Itrleasing their titles of Health Day royalty are last, yrar's queen and her attendants, (L to It) llecky Larsen.
