Show r 4 THE CITIZEN - THURSDAY, APRIL 3, 197S JTmnmTii 1 1 mrrrrinrrrrrrrrin Ok Easter Hqjjday Enjoyed By Newton Visitors 5fe by Leda Sutherland Newton 7wt On Saturday an Easter egg hunt was held on the town square under the direction of the Newton Young Homemakers Club. Those who were in charge of this fun affair were: Helen Rigby, Mary Mullen. Joy Larsen, tycnUt j4Uuh40M Splitting Seams With the cost of clothing going constantly upwards and the hems so skimpy that you can't pull them down many women take up the art of sewing not because they like to, but that they have to. I am one of those unfortunate souls who like to sew because I have to like to sew. I guess the subject of sewing came up because with the Easter holiday calling for new, fresh clothes I decided to build my daughter a dress to match one I had made a few weeks prior to the Easter festivities. I found an old zipper in an even older dress of hers and ripped it out. I then placed it between the seams of some material left over from the previous dress. Of course, not wanting it to look quite as old as my dress I entered a store to purchase some lace and fancy ribbon to add a youthful appearance to her outfit. I found that the money I had saved by using prior material was spent on lace and the fancy ribbon. So much for sewing and saving money. Bob is constantly complaining that I should be making slacks and jackets for him and Bret. Ive almost got him convinced that the pattern people dont make patterns for slacks and jackets for men because they are too difficult for the average homemaker. I, therefore try to steer him away from those energetic souls who have accomplished the impossible and made their husbands an entire suit, including the slacks, vest and jacket. Heather is my helper when it comes to sewing. She sits on top of the table and holds the spool of thread in her little hands. Totally absorbed in the sewing process I dont notice what she has done so I frantically try to adjust the tension because for some reason the thread keeps breaking. When I finally realize what has happened she has chocolate covered the thread with sticky Angers and wrapped the thread half-waaround the table. The annual ward supper was held cm Friday evening. The meal was under the direction of Margaret and Joyner Lofthouse and their committee, assisted by several young men of the ward who served as waiters. A program, with Jodie Smith as emcee, consisted of a history of some of the interesting events in the early settlement of Benson, related by J. Cash Smith; and music by a group from the Sounds of Zion, a singing group from the LDS Institute.
