Show 4 June 4, THE CITIZEN Obituaries 1970 Danish Converts Speak In Trenton TRENTON Mr. and Mrs. Wille Sorenson of Logan were the speakers at sacrament meeting in Trenton Sunday evening. Edward Lee Cottle, home on leave from the Army, named and blessed their infant dauglu ter, giving her the name of Linda Sue. He was assisted by Glen Griffin, Aubrey Griffin, Leland T. Cottle, Melvin B. Pitcher and Bishop Merlin L. Andrew. Sgt. Edward Lee Cottle was met at the Salt Lake City airport by his wife Janet and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Griffin, and the two Cottle children, Rachelle and Linda Sue. After his furlough Mrs. Cottle and children will accompany him to Fort Lewis for further training. Pfc. Alan Read, son of Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Read, is home on furlough. Seventeen of our young people graduated from Sky View. They were Christ! Princesses participating from Trenton were Beth Smith, Dawnetta Beckstead and Christi Andrew. Mr. and Mrs. A1 Furse of West Jordan and Leone But-taof Salt Lake City visited in Trenton Saturday. Mrs. Robert Reeder accompanied by her sister, Mrs Andrea Lamb of Hyde Park, went to Ogden Friday to visit a brother, Gordon Reese of Layton, who is seriously ill in the McKay hospital. Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Holt and Mrs. Lola Littledike attended a cookout at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Don M. Little-dik- e of Smithfield Saturday afternoon. J., visited last week in Lewiston with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne T. Wiser, for a few days and then accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Wiser to Burley to visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Layle Talbot and family. Mrs. Leavitt's son Ned, who has been attending school in Boise, met them in Burley and accompanied his mother and sister back to New Jersey. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Griffin and family of Ogden visited Sunday in Lewiston at the home of Mrs. Griffins parents, Mr. and Mrs. LaVere King. The Literary club held their closing party Saturday afternoon in tiie Summit Park restaurant with Emerett Wiser, president, conducting. FolMrs. Leda lowing dinner, Pond gave a review of the book, Marching Without Banners, by Mrs. Kemper Campbell. There were 13 club members and one guest present. Joseph Detton is convalescing at his home in Lewiston after undergoing major surgery at the Logan LDS hospital. The Lewiston Jaynes met Wednesday night at the Pop 'n Pins Lanes for their dinner meeting. Following dinner, the club was reorganized. New officers are Mrs. Neal Van Orden, president; Mrs. Judy Allen, vice president; Mrs. Carol Cornish, secretary. Door prizes were won by Barbara Stevens, Judy Allen and Julia Peck. New baby gifts were presented to Carol Cornish and Phyllis Bair. There were 14 members present. Mr. and Mrs. Clifton of Smithfield were Sunday dinner guests at the home of their daughter and her husband and family, the Denton Colemans in Lewiston. Mrs. Emerett Wiser has received word of the arrival of a grandson, born to Mr. and Mrs. Cordell Wiser in Lennox, Calif., on May 14. The Jeanette Brinkerhoff Leavitt camp of the Daughters of Pioneers held their closing meeting Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Eric Jorgensen in Lewiston. The meeting was conducted by Marie Bernhisel, captain. Mrs. Millie Rawlings gave the history of her grandfather, Henry Talbot, and Mrs. Z. W. Mrs. Mercedes Buxton has returned to her home in Lewiston after spending the past three months in Dayton, Ohio at the home of her son Val and his wife and family. Mr. and Mrs. Loraine Kar-re- n no-ho- st of Lewiston, accompan- ied by Mr. and Mrs. Moses Christoffersen of Cornish, spent the past week in Sacramento, Calif., visiting with relatives. LEWISTON BRIEFS Guests over the weekend at the home of Mrs. Anona Talbot in Lewiston were Mr. and Mrs. Claude Baird and family of Boise, Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Lemon and two daughters of Roy and Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Talbot of Logan. On Monday, Mrs. Talbot and Mrs. Lemon left by plane for Sacramento, Calif., to spend a week with another daughter and her husband, the Ron Wiggintons and family. Mr. and Mrs. Newell King and family are visiting in California with their daughters, Judy and her husband and daughter in Oroville, and Sonja and her husband and family in San Jose. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Allen of Chico, Calif., are spending a week in Lewiston and Logan with relatives and friends . Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn Blair and sons spent the weekend on a camping trip to Willow Flat i L : HYLAGE Venus Lufkin Fern Christensen Fern Durney Christensen, 69, died May 30 in Preston. She was born Nov. 13, 1900 in Richmond, a daughter of John S. and Annie Francin Durney. She had lived in Richmond for one year, and lived in Seatltle, Wash., prior. Her husband died in 1933. Survivors include the following children: Cleona M. Seattle, Wash.; Valentine, Darrell J. Christensen, FairDelora B. banks, Alaska; Okeson, Berkley Heights, N. J.; 10 grandchildren and five great grandchildren; mother, Mrs. Annie Weir of Preston. The following brothers and sisters survive: Retha Ellsworth and Matha Gray of Ogden, Sarah Athas of El Monte, Calif., LaVar Durney of Chilcoot, Calif., Floyd Weir of Henderson, Nev., Maxine Milyard of Colombus, Ohio, Dorothy Mollo of Saratoga, Calif., and a Ethel Vickrey of Clearfield. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Webb Mortuary. Burial was in the Preston cemetery. John Griffiths CLARKSTO- N- John H. Griffiths, 80, died early Monday at the family home in Clarkston of natural causes. His wife, Maybell, died two weeks ago. Mr. Griffiths was born in Clarkston Sept. 3, 1890, a son of William J. and Katherine Heggie Griffiths. He had been a farmer in the Clarkston area throughout his life. He held many responsible civic and church positions, having served as mayor, a member of the irrigation board, a member of the building committee, old folks committee, counselor in the priesthood quorum, and LaMar Nash many years as a ward and home teacher. He was born on May 6, 1915 in Treasureton, a son of Edwin Voss and Olla Rebecca Owens Cole. He married Mildred Poole on Dec. 2, 1941 in Pocatello. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple. He has lived in Franklin county all of his life where he farmed. Survivors Include his wife and the following children: Rodney 0. and Dennis E. of Winder, M. Lynn, Mrs. LaVor (Karen) Smith, Lee 0., Shannon, Evelyn, Keith C. and Clair D.f all of Whitney; three grandchildren, and brothers and sisters, Ralph E. of Preston, W. Wayne of Smithfield, Mrs. Ervon (Bonnie) Taylor of Preston and Mrs. William (Rella) Fife of Jerome. One brother and one sister preceded him in death. Funeral services have been tentatively set for Saturday. Frank Olsen Frank Olsen, 81, died June at his home in Franklin of natural causes. He was a high priest in the LDS church, a prominent farmer, and a board member of the Franklin Cub River Pumping Co., and a former Village Board member. He served in World War I and was a member of Veterans of World War I Post 1456. Survivors include his widow, son and daughters, F. Sherman Olsen of Roy, Marilyn 0. Taylor of Bountiful, Deann 0. Beckstead of Rowland Heights, Calif., 10 grandchildren, and three sisters, Rhoda Annette Neeley of Logan, Rose Hendricks of Logan, and Luella Doney of Franklin. Funeral services will be Saturday in the Franklin LDS ward chapel Friends may call at the Webb Funeral Home in Preston Friday from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and at the chapel in Franklin Saturday from 11 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in the Franklin cemetery. She was bom Sept 11, 1885, in Brigham City, daughter of William P. and Matilda Jane Perry Phillips. She married George Albert Coburn on April 3, 1902, in Malad, Idaho. He died Aug. 20, 1958. They were former residents of Dayton and had lived in Preston for the last 20 years. Mrs. Coburn was active in the LDS church, having worked in the Primary and Relief Society. She was a member of the DUP. Survivors include the following children: Raymond George, Glen Wayne, Max J., and Mrs. Leo (Feme) Boden, all of Preston. Two sons preceded her in death, Roscoe and Marion Dean Coburn. 15 Also surviving grandchildren and 26 great Franklin Teacher grandchildren.
