I 1 Heraclitus' observation, made about 2500 years ago, holds fame today. Whan applied to the metals industry, change is characterised by the speed with which it is aeoomplishsd. Mineral production in the United States is expected to increase by at bast 40 per crat in tha next 10 yean, and could possibly double that figure in tha next 80 years. To meet the challenge for increased copper production, Kennacott hsa taken the opportunity to make important changes in mining raid metallurgical practicae. Ore and overburden haulage, for example, largely has been taken offer by trucks from railroad A Aawh trains. Trucks capahle of carrying more then 100 taw HOW m mmnym ' with a n "bite are keeping pace with them. dipper The resultant additional ore tonnage has meant additional crushing and grinding and more smelter capacity. Meantime, techniques also have been steadily improved. In a four-yestepped-u- p expansion program now nearing completion , Kranecott's Utah Division is attaining all these goals and more, including a cone precipitate copper Copper plant designed under a new concept through original research and engineering. TheTuture, with the help of the computer, alio will prove "there is nothing permanent except e mine planning has passed the initial stages, sod information change." Already, processing is well underway on all phases of copper production. Which simply means that Kennecott, as in tha past, will continue to be a leader in tha metals industry. 30-to- . ar long-rang- i. i i 1 " guests at the homes of Ken- neth's brothers and their families, the Key Wisers and the Lewis Wiaers.
