Another factory was built at Lewiston In 1905. Hie first successful sugar beet factory In the United States was built by E. IL Dyer in Alvarado, California, In 1870. At that time fanners were paid 3.50 per ton for beets and the cost of manufacturing sugar was 10 cents per pound.
