IX AXO FOR THE COUXTY OK In a recent 'address, Congressman Murdock of Utah brought out some interesting facts concerning Americas Stake in the Mining Industry. The mineral wealth of the United States is more varied and abundant than that of any other region. The mining industry represents an investment of between twelve and fifteen billion dollars. In 1929, before depression paralyzed mining, this country produced 35 per cent of the worlds coal, 67 per cent of its oil, 37 per cent of its iron ore, 47 per cent of its copper, 36 per cent of its lead and 42 per cent of its zinc. Forty per cent of the worlds total value of mineral products was produced within our borders. To express the importance of mining another way, the average annual value of our mineral products, over a period beginning with 1923, was $4,446,000,-000- . In normal times, mining gives jobs to more than 1,700,000 men and coal mining alone provides more jobs than any manufacturing industry. It js a surprising fact that, as Mr. Murdock pointed out, every. state in the union is engaged in the mining industry and its direct influence is felt by every citizen. Mining is one of those few basic industries which are necessary to the progress, stability and prosperity of the natiftn. ar REPORT OF CONDITION OF THE FIRST NATIONAL BANK Of Logan in the State of Utah, at the close of Business On March 4, 1935.
