Show THE OHIO LYNCHING CLICK MITCHELL who w was as a member of our rare race was lynched on last friday june ath 1897 it is useless to inform our many readers that this lynching lunching lyn ching occurred in a beautiful little christian city which is ia located in the great state of ohio and which lies north of the mason and dixon line and if we mistake not the gentleman who at the present time sways over the destinies of our great republic C resides in the same hi highly ehly civil civilized iz ed state during the past twenty five years vears a large number of unfortunate vic victims have been swung into eternity b by y ganv many of our verv very best citizens and all those who read the newspapers are somewhat familiar with all the horrible scenes that have been enacted by bv all those who participate in these shocking and most disgraceful affairs according to the associated press reports the scenes that were enacted during the lynching lunching lyn ching of click mitchell were the most revolt revolting g I 1 i the most moat brutalizing and the most I 1 I 1 I 1 demoralizing that were ever essed in this or any other civilized country on the globe I 1 I 1 quite a few members of our race who reside here in our city city are of the impression that mitchell did not commit the crime for which he Auff suffered ered a most excruciating death i it may be that mitchell did not commit the deed which he was charged with committing t and if it should be proven that he was in then it is the sworn duty of president mckinley to arrest arrest all those who are guilty of shedding the innocent blood of one of his fellow citizens and give each one of them a dose of their own medicine but speaking for individually we have every reason to believe that mitchell did commit the deed and consequently we have no tears to shed for him nor for any other man be he black or white who would even attempt to commit a similar crime if all the members of our race desire to escape the vengeance of mob and lynch law they must absolutely sol refrain from violating the laws of our land and they must also remember that it is not the white man who is on trial but that it is the negro and every time a negro falls by the wayside it has a tendency of lowering every negro in the estimation of his enemies and his friends |
