Show i congressman KING AND HIS BILL ON may 1897 our C congressman on the hon W H king introduced the following bill but owing g to our limited space we could not reproduce it in in the last issue issue of the broad ax av be it enacted by the senate and house houfe of representatives of the untied united states slates oj america in congress assembled that subject to all rights inchoate or perfected thereca the reco including t the he water ri rights now belonging or appertaining to the united states all lands lying or being situated in the state of utah with full and complete juris i diction be and are hereby granted ceded and confirmed to said state the grant hereby contemplated to said state being of cf all the lands contained within its present boundaries and territorial terri limits and the president of the united states shall i issue issue letters patent for the same t to the aid state whenever and as sa said id state shall by an act of its ts ole legislature gi slature accept the despos disposition of t the he lands as here herein 1 i n provided within the time hereinafter ber eiria after fter ifield this act shall i in no manner effect any of the lands held by the united states for parks military or other public purposes nor any indian lands nor lands held in in trust for or for use I 1 by ind indians ian provided that as soon oon as the title t i tle to any lands which may be held by bv indians or any I 1 rights which they may may have to th the e i occupancy of an any v la lands ads or indian reservations shall have been extinguished and the residue of said lands land not obtained bv said indians by allotment or otherwise shall revert to the united states the said lands so 0 o reverting shall be embraced within this act and pursuant to the cession hereby made shall become the property of said state of utah see sec 2 that if at any any time within three years from the passage of this act the legislature of the state of utah shall pass an act accepting the grant and cession cession of the public lands within such state as contemplated by and provided herein and a certified copy of said act under the seal of the state of utah shall be filed with the secretary of tl interior then said grant a and cession cession shall be corn com and the title of all said lands so granted ranted and ceded by bv this act sha shall il vest in in the state of utah and tile the president of the united states shall thereupon issue issue letters patent for the ame to the said state sec 3 that as soon as after the filing of said certified copy of said act of the legislature it shall be the duty of the see sec detary detary of the entenor In tenor at the expense of the united states to cause to be delivered to the proper authorities of the state of utah the maps records books and papers or certified copies thereof in case it may be necessary to retain the originals in in the general land office alay be necessary to said state for the proper control administration and disposition of said lands if our congressman continues hij hid great work in in behalf of the people of our new state and if he continues to win win golden opinions from all those who are deeply in ia te rested in her progress theu then in our opinion there is is no power on the face of the earth that can prevent the hon W H king from beine swept right square into the states senate |
