Show THE A LINCOLN republican CLUB IT appears that at a recent meet ing ig of the above mentioned club 1 that our distinguished fellow citizen the hon P W nelson was elected president of the same ame now we have no desire to speak of president nelson in a derogatory manner nor of any of the other members of that club for we honestly believe that he is honest conscientious and wise and thoroughly qualified in every respect to serve in that capacity but we have been informed by a prominent member 0 of f 0 our u r race to the effect that during the election which was held two years ago to select delegates to the constitutional convention that president nelson procured the names of seventy five members of our race and that he called on one of the democratic candidates and pledged his word and honor that he and every mothers son of a gun of them would vote the democratic ticket from top t to bottom for twenty five cents apiece during the last election we observed our worthy friend hobnob ing with one or two of the democratic candidates but we do not mean to infer that president nelson had an itching desire to obtain any democratic money but it looked mighty suspicious to a man up a tree we sincerely ho hope pe that from henceforth the president of the A lincoln republican club will wi 11 refrain from trying to blow hot and cold at ac the same time we notice that brother bill taylor of the plain double dealer is a member of the executive committee he is the gentleman who was raised up from obscurity a few i years ago and placed in in a good paying office by a member of the democratic pa party arty which office he continued to fill until he was kicked out on the day of january 1896 by a high priest of the g 0 p it is said that the ex d dog 09 catcher is a very prominent candidate for the state jegi legislature slature and some of his frien friends ds say that he will be nominated by acclamation we warn him however 2 that he had better beware lest the same fate i will fan fall upon his head that fell upon the illustrious head of judge IL B johnson about one year ago it is reported that senator arthur brown will appoint judge johnson attorney general of the united states M in case bill mckinley is elected president of the same major general le P H robinson who was a can candidate didace for speaker of the house of belpre senta tives last winter is one of the directory and if the g 0 p marches on to victory he wm will receive the appointment as minister I 1 to africa P C howell esq i it f an honorary member of the club mr hoedl has worked very hard f forgae or je g 0 p during dazing the past yelm sua awl when the hon james glendinning became mayor of this beautiful city mr howell was an applicant for the position which is now held by bv a za gentleman butleman who does not entertain a very high regard for hog meat we presume that if napoleon mckinley wins with both hands down that P C howell will be the next postmaster of this fair city of zion behind the mighty movements of the A I 1 lincoln club we see the blood money money which has been wrung from the pockets of the poor honest workingmen by the hand of mark hanna whose name has become very offensive to the nostrils of all true americans and by standing away up on top of the woodpile we can see the fine italian hands bands of senator arthur brown sir john dooly ex governor A L thomas and old father bennett these gentlemen pay the fiddlers fidd lers and the members of the club dance to the music furnished by the big four but to make a long story s short hort we believe that the officers of the A li lincoln club are the representatives of a class of leaders who have been instrumental Is tru mental in in retarding the progress gre of the negro race more than all the other agencies combined harmony parsons of the republican committee is yet in doubt as to whether he can spell the name I 1 with a big H or with small h |
