Drag your bug collections out from under your beds. Rush to the laboratory and finish the last little exepri-men- t before ou draw our final conclusions; but hurry, only one month left. March 28 is the big day. All science club members and A" science students will be exhibiting their great discoveries. These, however, will not completely blot out the projects of we who are less talented and only do research projects on such subjects as the Quantum Theory. This is the year the students of B. Y. High School plan to stagger the judges and order three buses to take their projects to the National Science Fair and win three or four Nobel prizes. So. hurry one, hurry all. You may be a lucky winner. The projects, which many people are certainly looking forward to seeing, are those of Keith Rigby and Sheldon Miller. Both of these young budding scientists won research grapts to help pay the financial cost of their pro- jects. It is rumored that Liz B. Y. High will be the host for Region Nine Music Festival on March 18 from noon on into the afternoon, giving each chorus about ten to fifteen minutes in College Hall. Al- len and Paul Nibley have handed in top secret project reports in Chemistry. One of these was on an exclusive topic, The Periodic Chart. The other was on a project entitled How Ice Melts. Of course all information on these projects is top secret, but people are saying that Paul and Lizs projects are unusually unique, and intellectual. Seniors Hear Panelists selected In the past years B. Y. High has come home with straight superiors. The choruses are rated trom good to excellent, depending on how difficult the song is and how good of a job the choruses do in singing it. In the meeting some emotional and physical problems which lead to an emotional breakdowm were discussed as each patient explain-- 1 ed the experiences which led to his illness. This program of hating panelists was initiated to aid students in the understanding of mental illness. It wras concluded from the meeting that many become patients because of the inability to adjust emotionally to life and its complexities. Students were told of some of the progress patients make in the hospital and of some of the attitudes they acquire there. Most were surprised to learn that the hospital produces a weekly newspaper as well as a monthly edition which is sent to hospitals all over the world and includes institutions in Asia and Europe. Tougher Line Announced An announcement of a stricter enforcement of school law has Creative Writing Will Be Published in Yearbook A search is on for talented stu- dents at Brigham Young High School. The yearbook staff has announced plans to reserve eight pages for publication of the best creative efforts turned in by BY High scholars. This is an experimental idea and its success depends on the reaction of students and their willingness to participate. Therefore, the Yld Cat is sponsoring a spring writing contest. Students will be free to write on the subject of their choice in any list. Four panelists from the Utah State hospital visited the Senior Guidance students Tuesday, Feb- ruary 18 in the little theater. The panel consisted of three! patients who are presently under-- ' going tieatment at the hospital and a former patient who serves as moderator for the group. Nel-- j son, principal of the lab school, Because of the failure of stu-- l dents to observe such things as tardiness and lunchroom etiquette it will be necessary to put forth a tougher line. Students tardy three or more times on a first offense may be asked to make up study time after school or put a work project. Continuance of lax behavior may result in suspension. Students who misuse the lunchroom may loose cafeteria privileges. Brother Nelson stated that he wras sorry that students have made this type of enforcement necessary and that he hoped that students would not make these changes activated. The choi uses will bo recorded with the judges comments and corrections on the tape. When asked what he thought of the Beatles. Mr. Pexton commented I dont mind their hair-- ! dos or their costumes, thats their tiademaik. just like Perry Como has his sweaters; ot course their hair is a little sloppey and they d could trim it. But I was in their ararngements. It made me wonder what was in the refrigerator. Mr. Pexton feels that the chorus is doing very good in adjusting to a new conductor and is very happy with the progress that is being made. disap-appointe- 20 Travel To Model United Nations Approximately twenty B. Students participating in the delegation will be: Claudia Keeler, Kay Bonnett. Steve Bankhead, Kim Cameron, Susan Fuhriman, Kay Reeder, David Whetten. Carol Ann Frischknecht, Regina Redd, Mark Riddle. Sue Ann Elliott, Helen Margaret Wakefield, Kristi Taylor, Norman Darais, Barbara Stringfellow, Carol Alley, Gina Grow and Marilyn Ronald Smith Earns Honors Ronald Smith of the ninth grade recently gained recognition in his scouting endeavors by becoming first in the Utah National Parks Council to receive the new Atomic Energy Merit Badge. Ron has been interested for some time in this subject and saw the opportunity to gain new experience and background in this field as the Merit Badge came out. He visited the University and got all the information he could, learning from the departments about the terms he needed to know and studying the reactions of fission, fusion, and so forth. Part of the merit badge required him to construct models of the various of isotopes hydrogen. He used these models to explain atomic weights and numbers and the periodic chart of the elements. Ron was also required to explain how a geiger counter works and had to use it to track down samples of uranium. He said that working on this badge was so enjoyable that it was more fun than work. He said the study fascinated him and he recommended the badge to all scouts. Ron received this badge at a recent Court of Honor. It gives him a total of sixteen merit badges toward his Eagle award. He is presently in Troop 90 of East Provo 13th Ward. He is also a Life Scout. three-dimension- al Girls Given Go Ahead On Operation Male By Leap Year by Martha Johnson This year is the year, girls!
