This boy, as you might have already guessed is stridin Dean Allen. Dean, as you all know, runs mile on the B. Y. Highs track team, and he must be pretty Jgood because he is considered to J be the best class B high school jmiler I state. I in the To have a rating like that I is something I be to of. Deanproud is a senior who came to B. last year. He attended his sophomore and junior years at Richfield High School, where he also ran the mile. Y. To watch Dean run, you would not think that he going very fast in a winning direction, but if you have run against him, you would think a little differently. Ive heard it said that Dean has a stride like a tall man on stilts. And when you have that you dont have to run very fast. You might ask what he has won. Well, only first place in every track meet this year. So heres to a great runner, Dean Allen, athlete of the month. te of the Month Garys Gab April 29, 1955 Baseball Takes Sports Limelight Starting the first part of the is the game in which B.Y. really baseball season off was the two started to look like a baseball team. Returning this year from last years teams are Dick Dixon, By- ron Fisher, Mike Wiscombe, Paul Hart, and Dick Jennings. In addition to last years team are Kent Collins and Gary Liddiard. A couple of weeks ago the tennis team traveled down to St. George to the Dixie Invitational Tennis Tournament. While they were down there Dick Dixon took first place in singles, going through undefeated. At the Snow Invitational Paul Hart and Richard Jennings got , into the but were beaten out by American Fork, who took first place. Last Friday and Saturday the BYU Invitational was held and who should come up to win his third straight trophy at this meet was none other than Richard Dixon. In the junior high Ken Perkins and Robert McDonald went thru to the finals but were beaten out by Steve Packer and Bob Jacobsen of Wasatch, 6-- 5 8-- semi-finals- 6-- 6-- Member of the baseball lean, are shown above. It probably is correct to say they never totaled more than 10 points in any meet. But this year its a different story for they have not yet placed lower than third In any meet. They have always come away with two or three first and have placed high in every event entered. It is hard to just tell why track has improved so much in one year here at old B.Y., but its got a lot to do with the boys themselves. Each one of them knows what he has to do to be able to reach the highest step of the pedestal, and the goal for every boy is the same. To find a team in the whole state that has better morale and spirit is a difficult thing. As long as they have those qualitiies of sportsmanship and hard work, they will be .hard to beat and are bound to show up well. track Saturday, April Carnival.
