Wildcats will strike this after- noon at 2:30 "To Promote School Spirit was the motive behind the Sophomore Week, to be completed Monday by an assembly in College Hall. President Dick White was chairman of the week, and worked with the class officers and Faculty advisors, Mrs. Caine and Mrs. Hart on projects carried on throughout the week. The weeks activity started Mor day morning with a breakfast held in the Home Economics Dining Room. The class met and discussed plans for the week. On Tuesday, a Sophomore meeting was held during the lunch hour in Mrs. Cains room. Ideas were decided upon for the furthering of school spirit. The plan of a School Pep Club was presented to the student body bn Wednesday when Posters were put up around the hall, urging everyone to go to the game today in Pleasant Grove. If sales for the buses are successful, a regular Pep Club will be started, and season tickets for to and from the games will be sold. A Mat Dance was held on October 23 for all Senior High ht ' f trans-oortati- s&-den- A party has been planned for tonight, to be held immediately after the game. If the weather will permit, it will be a combine!! hay ride, weinie roast. The Assembly Monday will complete the Sophomore week and will carry out the theme of Alladin and his lamp. The hope of the Sophomore now is that they can get the rest of the student body out, with the school spirit that they have. And May We Quote running haltback Junior West-ovand a touted line cracker, er Corky Mathews. Thus far in Region play, B. Y. High has racked up three victories and dropped two games. Losing their first tilts to Lehi and Payson, the Cats have shown their steady improvement by tipping Spanish Fork, American Fork, and Springville. In recent games the boys have shown a defense at times and have come through with a hard driving offense. Led by the of Stalworthy, and the accurate passing of Christensen, the Y boys will show Coach Giles boys a warm time. on ts. . . This year Dixon is getting a taste of coaching for the first time, and is standing up under the strain remarkably well. Although it is a little early in the year to be passing out accolades, our vote for the Coach of the Year in Region Three is Owen Jokey Dixon of the resurgent BY High Wildcats. DeMar Teuscher Herald Sports Editor, Provo Herald. From Ray Schwartz, the Telegram scribe in Provo, comes the word that Reed Stolworthy, the B. Y. High fullback, is all anything. He is the best fullback I have seen in this region all year, including Lincolns Ralph Willet. If he had a line like Lincolns to clear the way for him, Stolworthy would be murder." High praise indeed, for from what we have seen of Willet, it would take some shucks of a fullback to surpass him. Salt Lake Telegram October 18, 1947 Dixons team still must face the two football powers of the region, Pleasant Grove and Lincoln, but no one is selling the Cats short. For the first time, region coaches are sending out the word watch out for the Wildcats. Provo Herald Eugenics Class to Sponsor School Party Elected by the class, Bernice Bulloc will head the committee for the Masquerade Party to be sponsored by the Eugenics class for the Senior High Student Body. John Howard, Hoover Clark, and Alma Dawn Anderson will also serve on the committee with Miss Bulloc. i The party will be held in 250-- A on November 1. Plans are now under way to make it an affair long remembered at the High School. against the Pleasant Grove Vikings in an effort to continue their three game winning streak. The Wildcats are prime for the battle with the second place club in the region. Looking good, despite the pleg of injuries on the squad the Y High boys are given the edge oa a hard-fouggame. Traditionally a rough and tumble game, it should be full of breaks and hard playing. The game is expected to become a battle of backfield men with the lines of the two schools classed at a near par. Coach Dixion boasts the best fullback in the region in Captain Reed Stalworthy and the fanciest passer of the area in Haiold Christensen. Pleasant Grove has to their credit, fast Back Row, (left to' right) Coach Dixon, Coach Crowton, Dick White, Jae Ballif, jfCent Lloyd; 2nd Row Norman Kimball, Erven Nelson, Ted Nelson, Merlin Stevens, Dale Atkinson, La Mar Rawlings; 3rd Row Merrill Strong, Reed Stolworthy, George Olson, Eddie Malonie, Fred Johnson, Bob Swenson, Don McIntosh, Dick Boyle, Jimmy Jones, Boyd Dowell; 4th Row Bob Jones, Grant Brockbank, Norm Christiansen, Harold Christensen, Bob Hales, Bob Kirkpatrick, Devere Brough, Jimmy Makin, Phil Morgan, Condon Avery. Lets say that none of the class officers were able to be in attendance today, so you are going for them. As you come into the council room and take your seat, the talk around the table suddenly stops this is what will happen. The president will call the council to order, after which the roll will be called, you are to answer for the president you ari representing, and make it known to the council that you are the representative there for him. Next the secretary, Phyllis Winker would read the minutes of the meeting last held for the approval of the council. The organization of the Utah chapter of the National Association of Student Councils, the carrying through the election on the constitutional amendment that is in the air and special school problems such as the cutting down on the consumption of food in assemblies. These are all part of the student councils total objectives. The council is trying to lead out in aH the functions of the school and its extra curricular activities.
