Show Kirkman Excels In DATE SLATE Security Contest My True Security was the theme this year of the annual oratory contest sponsored by the Junior Chamber of Commerce. The contest has been known in the past as I Speak for Dem- Vol. 16, No. ocracy. Participants in the contest were members of Mrs. Caine's Current History class. Judges chose three finalists who represented B.Y. High in the local competition that was held in January. Finalists were Nancy Oldroyd, Sally Kirkman and John Lambert. Winner of the local contest was Sally Kirkman. She received a plaque for her achievement. The two runners-u- p received loving cups. Sally will represent B.Y. High and Provo City in the state contest to be held in Sait Lake City on February 8. The winner of the state competition will receive a $1,000 scholarship to Brigham Young University, the largest prize that has ever been given in the state contest. The winner will then compete in the National contest held in Washington D. C. where the prize is also a $1000 scholarship to the university of his or her choice.
