Paul, Wil keep tradition going Two achieve straight AY Senior For thetKird consecutive year, Larry Ford and Junior Leslie Strong topped the honor roll the second term with a straight A average, Mrs Idell Thurston, registrar, reported. Seniors receiving high honors are Janeen Acord, Terri Fisher, Glorianne Howard, Brent Orton, and Veea Palmer Juniors receiving high honors are Mark Ashworth and Robert Riddle. From the Junior High, Karen Bradshaw, Cheryl Cottrell, David Orton, Jerry Reynolds, and Diane Strong received high honors. Juniors and seniors receiving honors are Karen Andersen, Jenny Austin, Barbara Babb, Nancy Cannon, Paul Christensen, Drexel Clark, Larry Curtis, Lani DeHart, Mirreo Gleave, Gary Golightly, Laraine Grow, Rosemary Haff-ne- r, Kim Hanson, Brent Harmon, Sharon Huntington, John Maas, Kevin Moss, Jackie Ovard, Steven Soffe, Diane Sowards, Sylvia Spears, Kathy Swensen, Natalie Taylor, Rachel Wallace, Joseph West, Clint Williams, and Sarah Willis. The royalty will be announced during the floorshow. The entire studentbody voted on the candidates, after they were nominated by the Sophomore Class. For the first time, the dance is being sponsored by the Sophomore Class. The class officers include Randy Bernhard, president; Fred Teichert, Marianne Bowen, secretary; Barbara Allen, girls social chairman; and Paul Sowards, boys social chairman. While in Salt Lake, the girls toured Maxfields Candy Co., Beehive House, attended the organ recital and conference meetings, and went to banquet where Governor Calvin Rampton spoke. Terri Fisher, state FlfiC historian, was toastmistress. Debate competition included more than 100 teams from schools throughout Utah, Idaho, and Nevada. After the first day of competition, all but 48 teams were eliminated. Among these 48, four teams (including Mark and Tom) round competed in the semi-fina of debate. Sertoma contest Club. in Ashworth, Gunn awarded third in debate at Weber Meet order- Mary Beth was awarded a $25 savings bond for her winning essay. The eighth graders were given a special program by the Sertoma Club during first period Monday. Mary Beth was announced as the winner of the contest, during the program. Jacobs, a junior, was the BY High winner of the 31st National Oratorical Contest sponsored by the American Legion. Final competition for the contest was held last Thursday in the Little Theatre. On Tuesday, David also competed at Provo High in the region contest against representatives from the other schools in Region Four. finalists Merit Scholarship this time in the persons of seniors Paul Christensen and Wilbur Newland. Last year Joe Andrus and Jim Holtkamp were finalists, preceded by Linda Wood and John Gardner the previous year (both skipped their senior year to attend BYU) and Steve Egbert in 1955. Both Paul and Wilbur were anthis fall, nounced one the top percent representing of the takers nationally of the Merit Scholarship exam.
