Preceding his success at the Science Fair, Larry received a great deal of publicity for his project, the first of which was in the Brigadier in December. The publicity began when the BYU sent a press release on him to the Daily Herald. The release was put on the national Associated Press wire, and the next day Mr. Wallace Allred, principal of BY High, had a phone call from KUTV2, asking him to excuse Larry from school for about an hour. Since then Larry has explained his project over TV stations 2, 4, and 11. and radio stations KOVO and KEYY. Larry presented a paper at the United States Army Science and Humanities Symposium held at the University of Utah in March. Attending the symposium were 200 science students from the intermountain area. Of these 200, only 20 were selected to read papers. Recently Larry was awarded a research grant from United Fund for the continuation of his radiation project. He applied for this grant through Dr. Tracy Hall, head of research at BYU. He has also applied for a grant from the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission for when the United Fund grant runs out in Septem $2,000 AF High, . lino;., P.j Varsity beats late to get a date for the Junior i ber: but he has received no word on it as yet. Studies along this line have led him to his present project. He plans to continue with this project indefinitely, and states that he will go into a field which encompasses it as his line of work.
