Award system streamlined Steps have been taken by the Awards Committee to shorten the length of the final awards assembly so that student interest can be sustained throughout the awards program. Last year the assembly went an hour and 45 minutes overtime; and it was realized that as the assembly progressed, the awards seemed to mean less and less to the students. In order to shorten the assembly, the following steps have been taken. All the awards and trophies that have been determined during the course of the year will be presented on the first assembly following the event. These awards will be listed on the program but will not be presented during the program. The nature of those awards presented will be scholarships and the departmental achievement and service awards. Decision as to whether or not to give this award will remain the perogative of the department. The BY High Wildcats increased their win record by three over the Christmas holidays, defeating Granite, Pleasant Grove, and Gunnison and losing only to American Fork. The driving Wildcats also put the heat on the Springville Devils, and it proved to be too hot for the southern club. The final score of the Springville game was 72 to 56. Larry Denham casually led the scoring with 20 points, hitting ad libitum from whatever position on the floor that he chose. He was followed by center Jon Hatch with 15, and Lee Berge with 12. Leading in rebounds was Richard Valgardson with 13. HIGHEST SCORE YET Larry Denham ran up 22 points against Gunnison, leading the Cats to a 8 victory over the Bulldogs. Bill Miller was second highest for BY with 98-5- 18. The American Fork Cavemen handed the Wildcat cagers their only loss of the season by a 62 to 57 clip. Denham was the top scorer in this game with 15 points. HATCH SPARKLES Jon Hatch sparkled in the Pleasant Grove and Granite games by gaining 20 and 21 points, respectively. Both counted as tops in individual scoring for those games. BY won both games, PG by 72 to 41 and Granite 73 to 51. Denham was second high scorer in both games. BY then defeated Lehi High on Dec. 18 by a score of 80 to 53. Hatch totaled 18 points, followed by Richard Valgardson with 15. This brings the Wildcats record to eight official wins and one loss with nine Region games to go. J.B.s Big Boy Hamburger |
