For days, the streets had been filled with travelers, caravans and the noise that accompanies them. But now a quiet slumber enveloped the city. A lone figure clutching his coat about him trudged along the silent streets. His face was worn with fatigue. The man was John, of Samaria. He had come to Bethlehem to pay his taxes. John had walked all the way from Samaria because he could not afford a donkey. He had traveled for many days and now had finally reached the city. Now he must find a place for the night. The inns were crowded with weary travelers, and John soon grew tired of searching. At last he was able to rest his weary bones in a small stable filled with fresh clean straw. About an hour later, John was awakened by a light and hushed voices. A young couple leading a donkey were standing above him. They had traveled to Bethlehem from Nazareth. The stable would be a perfect place for them to rest. John knew .there wasnt enough room in the stable. He looked into the eyes of the young woman. They were tired and longed to close. The young man seemed worried over the safety of his wife. The couple could not move on. Slowly John climbed to his feet, adjusted his coat and silently stepped out into the cool night air. His feet hurt, his shoulders ached, but somehow there was a feeling of peace within his heart. Later that night, Christ was born and was presented with gifts of worldly value. But the gift of love, unknowingly given of the traveler from Samaria was the finest gift of all. together, these One of the most energetic of organized groups this school vear is the Honor Society.
