Show STEPS TO STATEHOOD. A Summary of the Moat Important renta. The steps to secure statehood for Utah are necessarily si w. Each stop requires wise, careful and mature thought. In a few days Governor West will issue a proclamation procla-mation ordering a Constitutional Convention. This will consist of about 100 delegates appointed from the various counties of the Territory Terri-tory according to population. Box-elder Box-elder Coiuity is entitled to four. These delegates will be voted for at the coming November election. The Constitutional Convention will be held in March, 1895. The constitution this convention drafts will he submitted to the vote of the people at the regular November election, 1895. If it is accepted, it wll be sent to President Cleveland Cleve-land who, accepting it, will proclaim pro-claim Utali a sovereign state. One Representative will be voted for in November, 1895. Two Senators will if. elected bv the state Leyisia- ture, which will meet about December, De-cember, 1895. These Senators and the Representative will be seated in Congress early in 1890. Con- j sidering the vast importance of the ! matter, the great amount of work attached to it and 'he danger of, haste the people of Utah could not expect to get their men seated in the halls of Congress before 1896, which will be less than a year and a half hence. |
