Show VIB S E R VANCE OF ARMISTICE IDAY american legion puts over a splendid iro program patriotic at the high school i A fitting program in commemoration of the signing of the armistice nov 11 1918 just seven years ago which brought to a close the great world war was carried out in brigham city wednesday under the direction ot of the brigham post no 10 american legion the citizens were ere awakened at in the morning by the tiring firing of a salute the shrieking 0 of the siren the ringing of 0 bells led by the Drig brigham liam city fire department and joined by the american legion the national guard and citizens at 1230 a parade was formed ed at the armory and a march made to the box elder high school very impressive and appropriate services in n memory of the veterans of 0 this country who fought and died in the late world war were held at the high school auditorium the first number was that of 0 carrying in the colors while the audience stood at attention and the legion members saluted while standing the congregation gre gation then sang one verse of 0 america there followed a musical number from the high school band lewis jones the chairman then introduced trod facer Ma mahnkin linkin and rees as prisoners du gare who added a touch of humor to the occasion miss clara watkins rendered a vocal solo and encore mr air jones then addressed the audience giving the purpose of the legions holding the holiday and other matters ile he said that in order to avoid future wars the legion favored the following 1 the passage of a universal draft act 2 A national preparedness program S 9 adherence to the international court of justice the names ot of the legion members member killed in the war were read and the audience stood with bowed heads for two minutes in their honor dwight wright sang my america and an encore after which mr air J P mc ale finals ginals legion member from ogden was introduced as the speaker after his very good talk on the hope for world peace and a general review of the happenings during and sin aine re the war the orchestra closed the program with another selection the sporting pr program included a football game in the afternoon ind and a boxing contest in the evening an account 0 of which appears in another column ot of this issue A beautiful display of fireworks were set oft off in the evening and witnessed by a largo large and appreciative crowd the days program concluded with a grand military ball at the academy of music in the evening the dancers were provided with beautiful patriotic programs and music was furnis furnished bed by norm norin batkins Ya ten piece orchestra the ball was one of tho the leading social events of the season and attended by a large and enthus laidle throng ot of young people |
