Show GEO H gilbean DIED SUN DAY succumbed to bronchial pneumonia after weeks illness at the home of his daughter in salt lare lake george 11 gilbert one of 0 the early utah pioneers and a resident ot of this city for upwards of seventy years died sunday evening at at the home of 0 his daughter mrs priscilla whitaker 1610 south west temple tempie street salt lake city after an ill ness of 0 one week with bronchial pneumonia he was nearly SS 88 years ot of age and was hale bale and hearty at the time he was stricken ill being in a splendid state ot of physical preservation the body was brought to this city sunday evening by undertaker jesse W hoopes IIo and funeral services will be held thursday afternoon at 2 at the sixth ward chapel un der the direction of bishop abel S rich of the first ward mr gilbert was born june 4 1 1111 at cornwall england a son of 0 george and mary alary blackwell gilbert the fam ily joined the L D S church in their native land and emigrated to utah in 1852 crossing the plains in the fall of that year with ox teams for a time mr gilbert resided at mill creek where he engaged in farming in the fall of 1856 he with others was wag called to take provisions to a handcart company who were overtaken by the early tall fall snows on his return he moved to this city where he has since resided ile he spent the tall fall and winter of 1857 in echo canyon where he was called with others to meet johnstons army during the move south mr gilbert was left here to guard the property of the citizens of brigham in the spring of 1860 he with others went to florence neb to get provi stona here he be met miss henrietta i I 1 nolle noble whom he later married at salt lake city on feb 10 1862 she died r in this city in november 1921 mr gilbert was possessed of a splendid tenor voice and was a member of the tabernacle choir for twenty five years he and his good wife who was also a talented singer sang at many of the meetings and socia ls they were also members of the noted choir of this city under the direction of the late IL L fishburn that sang at many of the early conferences of tile the church at salt lake city at the request of the late president brigham young surviving are ar three daughters mrs airs james G smith of preston idaho mrs tryfena rogers of los angeles calif mrs priscilla whitaker of salt lake city and one son A N gilbert of this city surviving also are ard 19 grand children cli ildren and 36 sr great at grand children interment will be in the i city cemetery |
