Stoddard, president of Ihe Union Pacific railroad, said According to Mr. Stoddard of the payroll of the Union Pacific is paid in the four states Of Utah, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. This is the money the D & RGW wishes to cut into. one-thir- d Over 10 million dollars is paid in taxes to the four northwestern states. Utah alone receives three and a quarter million dollars. Of this amount Box Elder county is allotted 96 thousand dollars. Mr. Stoddard said the D & RGW proposal would be detrimental to the area involved. He explained that this traffic presently moves on the Union Pacific main line through Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska and Kansas Which is the shortest, fastest and most economical route. Inclusion of D & RGW in the routing would result in longer, slower and circuitous rouling which entails expensive transportation. In addition to these disadvantages to shippers, the proposal would not contribute to of the area the development served. Mr. Harry E. Johnson, manager of the Ogden Social Security field office, will visit Brigham City on Thursday, August 18. He will be in the Utah Employment Security office, second floor of ihe Howard hotel, from 2:80 to 4 p. m. Women and children receive special protection from the Social Security act, according to Mr. Johnson. "When a worker who is insured by social security dies and leaves a widow with children under 18 years of age, the widow can be immediately eligible to receive monthly payments for herself and her children, regardless of the workers age at the time of his death, If continued Mr. Johnson. there are no minor children at the time of the workers death then the widow could be entitled to a single lump-supayment." Mr. Johnson pointed out that many women seem to think in the event of their husbands death that they can get back only the few dollars paid into social security by the worker. It often surprises a widow to learn that she and her minor children will be entitled to regular monthly benefits. Thesp emphasized monthly benefits Mr. Johnson, frequently mean for the children the difference between going to school and going to woik. Mr. Johnson urges everyone who has a question concerning their social security status to contact him during this visit. I nTECTIOH am new f I SPARKLE , .
