One of the most important things for ex servicemen to do about their national service life Insurance is the naming of a of beneficiary or benefieiaiies their policies, Guy A. Howard, district service officer, Utah department of veterans affairs, asserted today. Unless a veteran gives this matter thoughtful consideration, he may fail to get the most out of his insurance, he pointed out. For instance, if no beneficiary is named, the policy holder may be risking a financial loss to his heirs. Up to August 1, 1916, it was not absolutely necessary for the veteran to name primary and contingent beneficiaries because the law provided for payment of the insurance to legal heirs in a specified order. Now, dies however, if the veteran without naming a beneficiary, or if the beneficiary should die before the policyholder, the insurance will be paid in a lump sum to the veterans estate. 00 up to TRADE-I- N ALLOWANCE For Your Old Bike! Hallowe'en Dance Success An annual Halloween dance sponsored by the Boys League, was termed a success by the Boys League officers. Gene Walker, senior, was the lucky one, who had figured out the mystery sentence, and for his neat piece of brain work won a box of chocolates. The dance floor was beautifully decorated with cornstalks and pumpkins. Confetti, serpentine and punch were sold to help offset the expenses of the orchestra and decorations. Lee Wight. Harvey Wardrop U. S. Army and Air Force Recruiting Service Brigham City, Utah October 16, 1948. St. Wardrop. l Box Elder Dear Sergeant: My youngest son just turned 18. He quit school after three years. He wants to enlist in the army for three yeats. id like to have him sign up for only one year as three is such a long time. What advantages would my boy have if he enlisted for three years instead of one, or wouldnt there be any advantages. A Father. Answer I believe I know your soil. If you and your son are the ones I'm thinking of then 1 believe I can answer your question without any difficulty. The advantages differ with each ease. In the case of your son, if hes the one I am thinking of, he has a terrific yen to travel. He told me that you folks were not too well off financially and that hed probably never be able to see any part of this world except at the expense of Uncle Sam. He especially wants to see Germany and that vicinity of the world. anxious, Hes not particularly at this time, to learn a trade. He wants to get in an organization that gets around and can guarantee plenty of action. I recommend that this boy enlist for the First constabulary division in Germany. The boy was enthusiastic about the outfit but left my office with the statement that he wanted to talk it over with his parents which is exactly what I recommend in all cases anyway. That was two weeks ago and the boy has not returned. Also in this boys case is the fact that he has been unable, since he left high school to find News-Journa- that pays well. This boy, by the lime he hits his outfit in Germany, will be making just a few dollars under $100 each month. This is in addition to all his clothing, food, lodging, dental and hospital care. He hasnt even averaged $100 a month since he quit school and then hes paid you folks $30 a month board which reduced his pay to a figure far lower than what hell receive in the army. If your son was to enlist for a year, which he is entitled to to do, he would be required spend the year in the U. S. when he wants to travel; hed make 20 percent less , money each month while hes in the service and he would be required to enr list in the Reserves for a period when he got out or would have to enlist in the Brigham national guard battery for four yeats. In fact if your son is the one I have in mind, Id bet good money that he makes a career of the the service. take-hom- e six-yea- Brigham City, Utah News-Journa- Out Tex. S. government may make claims against the insurance. Hence, veterans can protect their heirs against possible financial loss by naming a beneficiary, and they can add to the protection by naming a contingent beneficiary to whom the insurance is to be paid if the ed at Fort Riley, Kansas; however, that plan has been junked in favor of Fort Ord.
