Both reports were adopted unanimously. Nephi Anderson then offered the fiffowing resolution and moved its adoption: IVhekeas, statements have appeared in a local newspaper which cast reflections on the business integrity of our present school board and on the general management of our schools; Be it Resolved, that, we the citizen voter of Brigham school district, expre-- s our appreciation of the business met hods employed In the conducting of our school affairs: that In accepting their reports, we express our approval of the labors of the presen t board and their predecessors In establishing our schools on a modern basis and bringing them up to the present high standard of porfleieucy: also that we resent any implications that cast discredit on our schools, to the Injury of our city in the eyes of our neighbors an 1 to the unjust censure of our tiusiees and teachers. After being amended to read the Box Elder Report" instead of a local uewspapei, the resolution was unanimously adopted. TIIE ELECTION. Probably the only partisan school elect ion held in the state was that in this city, and the result was a complete overthrow for those who forced the issue. With many Republicans it was more a vote against partisanship in school election than against the candidate, Jamas Knudson, who is known to be a conservative and fair business man. There were 003 ballots cast of which George W. Watkins, the Democratic candidate, received 377 votes and Jas. Knudson, the Republican candidate, r ei. mg J3l, ' Watkins being elected by Mil m ijonti. Watkin was nominated at the Democratic primary held last Friday night at the court house. He is a young man ex optionally well qualified for the position of trustee having graduated from r lie normal department of the B. Y. Academy and having, since been a successful school teacher. He li.is held the position of r county clerk and is a good and accountant.. He has had the confidence of the people and his employers in every position he has held and will be fair and just in the office of trustee which tie s elected to hold for the next tli ree years. t" The following is a copy of the caused which editorial the passage of the above lesolution: Mr. book-keepe- Re-put- For school trustee the Republicans have nominated the city Justice of Peace, James Knudson. or not children whether are Mr. Knudsen will we venture to predict make a good trustee-His a conscientious business man with a good stiff back bone. We may hereafter require a different grading system in our schools when the canning and sugar factories are running their full capacity we may have to open a winter school for a term of four to five months. e Let us have a change in the management of school matters. Mr. Knudsen as city justice of the peace in many cases where formerly, charges were made against the city, has rendered his services free. He has followed the rule that no costs should be taxed against the city in any case. This shows his interest ia the prosperity and welfare of the City. Great savings may be effected by adopting business methods. The problem of the best form of municipal school administration has become one worth studying by the people. , There must be no waste of public money; there must be no neglect of the school houses. Our system of school administration should be economical- - .Interest must be centered upon educational needs. The local feeling of interest should be stimulated. No distinction should be made as to sex, race or religion. Let economical and systematic arran make, the school district a unit. Mr- Knudsen would recognize the people at all times.
