Show A rrry THE The County Schools. I am often asked how large this county is, rjmarked Supt. Nephi Anderson to a Sews reporter, who, on hearing that be had recently been one of his lung tours, visiting schools, , enquired of him tor Items of iuter.-stof idea distance, and to give Mime I lei! them that I must travel 800 miles to visit every school in Box Elder county. Yts, I ha ye counted it up, My old, and those are the liguros. gray hor-a- t has trotted around that .distance six tiotes now. My latest trip was a most pleasant joe. The roads were good, and the The grass was Weather was line. and thu live on tlie bill', growing were it enjoying aheep Well, I said live sue. p because I MW so mum' dea.I one . wete lying till over toe hills, not it plea.-aeight, or smell either i n places. There must have been great loss in some nt herds during the past winter. Educationally, tlio county is awake and Jo a good conditiuu. Must of the schools are being conducted ou a business basis, and we are getting out of that had practice of letting the pupils close the school and discharge the teacher by simply withdrawing their attendance. And thats a good thing. If we wish to draw the best men and women into our schools and certainly there ought to be none else we can only do so by placing our schools on a business basis, and making it worth while for our teachers. We have many new school bousss this year. Willard Is now well equipped, the Central building especially, .containing live modern rjoms. Out at Howevhle, they have just completed a building. wtwding the protracted trouble ther iiave had in its erection, the two rooms are models of comfort. They may now have a graded school, and double its usefulness accordingly. Up at East Portage, also, a neat school house has been erected during last season. Park Valley has now a comfortable two roomed hums, and Rosette is to receive the same in the near future. Deweyrille has also added a .new room to their old one. fVbat is gratifying is that these new buildings are school houses. That is, they are Dot just, meeting houses, they are built especially for school purposes. School rooms may be used for meetings if needed, but a meeting house usually makes a very inconvenient school room. We have new buildings planned for next year in the ,Bear River and Yost districts. Vo; I didnt get to Grouse Creek, If you bad seen the snow drifts on top of the Junction mountains you would understand why I hurried back. I drove into one, but the horse went up to Its belly, and I had a time getting out again. I had not ever seen snow there before, but I warrant there is yet enough up there to make ice cream. two-room- n f tit f Brigham Girls Defeated. The youDg ladles comprising the Brigham basketball team went to Logan last Friday to play a game with the B. Y. college team and were badly defeated, the score at the close of the game beiDg 15 to 3. They were badly handicapped, this being their first attempt to play basketball on a floor, and will do better next time. Miss Vida Jensen is said to have played a fine game, receiving much praise. The college girls did splendid playing and are not easily defeated. t a Fifty Years the Standard g heme Rich, If'a!.. been s ,.n: ti it r to make his j,ave he where he expects THURSDAY.
