Show Page THE 80X ELDER NEWS, THURSDAY, FEBRUARY i. called forth in the morning of the resurrection. The grave was dedicated by Pres. W. C. Horsley. The High School dismissed at 12 oclock for the day, and the students attended the services in a body, completely filling the balcony. Below are given the resolutions of respect from the M. I. A. at Bear River, and also the letter of Pres. O. D. Romney which recites the illness and death of Elder Burt. ARf LAID AWAY (Continued from first page.) tongue. His mission . president and missionary companions bear record of his zeal as a teacher of righteousness and the fidelity of his life and character in ministering to the people. Just how he won the affections of the na-- ' tives was eloquently told in the letters from his Maori parents" which were read at the funeral services and also estified of by Elder Wight who stated that the Maoris followed the remains through the streets of Auckland to the wharf, with the tears streaming down their faces and they stood dejectedly on the pier sobbing until the steamer had passed out of the harbor beyond their vision. Nine months ago, Elder Larsen, a companion of Elder Burt, was called hence and at that time Elder Burt remarked that he could imagine nothing more sad than to see an elder give up his life in the mlsuionary field far from his loved ones. During his illness, it was reported that he often told his Maori mother that she nursed him as his own mother woud and yet he expressed a desire to have his mother with him. This wish was often expressed but could not be realized. At the luneral services, which were held in the Third ward chapel Monday afternoon, his home coming was referred to by the speakers not as an occasion ot sorrow but in triumph with a martyrs crown upon his brow and all the honor that belongs to the sacrifice of giving ones life for his friends. The services were most solemn and bcautifullyimpressive. In deed It was not an occasion for mourn' ing, though tears streamed from the eyes of nearly all present, but rather the soul was melted by the sweet influence which pervaded the gathering and the memory of the noble youth whose remains were in the congregation. It was one of those occasions which tear record of the tfuth of the statement It is better to go to the house of mourning than to go to the house ol feasting," for truly It was a spiiitual least. The building was packed to its capacity, there must have been between nine hundred and a thousand persons present, people coming from almost every ward in the county as well as from Salt Lake, Ogden and Idaho points. The stand was draped in white and when the remains were carried in a wealth of floral tributes followed, that covered every space. The class of 1911 was represented by a beautiful crescent with a great star suspended between the points; the High School was also represented by a beautiful design and innumerable others were contributed by relatives and friends, while the casket was covered by boquets of cut flowers. There were three wax flower designs made by the Maoris and sept home W itb the remains as a mute tribute of their love. 8 mm,.-- - t 31 Just the tee the not cost as we can the D.D.D. remedy.
