For Sale Only at FISHBURN'S. fuller details: You know that I first started the study of medicine while bookkeeper and commissary clerk at the Prove asylum In '91. While there Dr. Pike gave me those bones and the history of the man. It appears that Ills name was John P. Davison, a maniac who was entered about 21 years ago and who killed himself a short time after he was placed In the institution. He was a trusty during the latter part of his stayithere, and it was through the liberty he enjoyed as such that he was able to accomplish the terrible deed which marked the ead of tala life. He was an educated man, a chemist of wide research, and had ben a man of considerable means. Oil the day preceding the night on wtaleh he ended his Ufa he spent all of his leisure time in preparing a paper explaining some queer happenings of his former life and what he intended to do that night. His actions were not obnsidered strange or worthy of special attention because he eften devoted time to study and frequently to writing the latter, however, he always destroyed. That night all was as usual. The patients went to bed at their regular time. The night wore on and morning came without - a cry having been uttered to awaken the sleeping hours. All was paace and quietness. But part of that peace and that quietness was of the eternal kind the quiet nbs and the pcaoe of death. He was found with a long carving knife plunged through his heart, his body lying near those of the two attendants who slept in his ward and Wham he had killed. In his pocket was found the paper he bad writren during the day a wild, roaming story of his life through which was Irrelevantly scattered remark here, there an exclamation of hate, and a wild laugh, etc., all re ferring to his keepers. Indirectly he sflludes to the fact that he intended to kill them. Whenaver Dr. Pike told theostory he always quoted these fords: 'And when yon yellow orb has sunk beyond those western hills, It would sink to rise no more for them iftd me! And It didn't. But tho strangest pkrt of It all was this, that his story partially cleared up one of the strang' est hospital cases in the west. It was a Denver case and Is always referred to as 'ths case of the dark lady.' It seems that along in the summer of 75, a Missouri Pacific train stopped at a small station on Its road just east o'f Fueblo. A man, helping a lady, hoarded it, placed his charge in a seat sin'll rushed out again, evidently with the intention of getting some baggage. Bit the train immediately pulled out, leaving him behind. It was then discovered that the fady, a beautiful brunette, was urn conscious. She was carried on to Pueblo, then on to Denver, but the at both places were stuck none could do anything for her; she could il6t be revived. In her unconscious state slife lived for eight days, then was never known, nutil this maniac confessed that it was he. She was his wife and, according to his 6toryr he killed her because she was insane and he chose to kill her rather than to have her suffer the miseries of insan- ity. Being a chemist, and himself Insane, he chose a uniqfie method, a method he failed to explain in his last testament tnd so, evtn now, it is not known what he gave l.er to induce sleep or unconsciousness for eight days proceeding certain death. Of courso, whether or not he was thd author of this unknown ladys death it Is hard to say. It is possible that he was laboring under hallucination, as many Insane persons do, but tide truth of that can never be known, lie evidently fancied he was leaving behind a valuable document, while in reality the ODly value it might have contained was left out, namely, how he caused the death of his wife. If he had have explained that he might have left a very valuable contribution to science and his story would not have been doubted. You will notice that the skull is cut in two, or to be more exact, the top removed. This was done at the time of his death for the purpose of examining his brain. The body and head was then boiled for the purpose of removing the flesh from the bones, the intention being to polish them ana wire em up; but some how or other they never got polished and conso; quently were consigned to a dusty box, where finally your hands found and brought them forth. The Best Remedy for Croup. (From the Atchison, Kas., Daily Globe.) This is the season when the weman who knows the best remedies for croup is in demand in every neighborhood. One of the most terrible things in the world is to be awakened in the middle of the night by a whoop from one of the children. The croup remedies are almost as sure to be lost, in case of croup, as a revolver is sure to be lost in case of burglars. There used to be an old fashioned remedy for crouo known as hive syrup and tolu, but some modern mothers say that Chamberlains cough remedy is better, and dees not cost se much. It causes the patient to throw up the phlegm quicker, and gives relief in a shorter time." Give this remedy as soon as the croupy cough appears and it will prevent the attack. It never fails and is pleasant and safe to take. For sale by D. L. Eddy & Son, druggists. Notice- - state of Utah, ss. f sftfe Coes dke Dated Oct. o2-- 30 Hans Knudson, Wm. No. , ......
