Show IP J CHRISTENSE 11 DIED SATURDAY his life was spent in pub lie lic service in both religious ious and civic capacity in the passing of 0 john P christensen who died at his home south first east street saturday night al at 9 brigham city has lost one of its best citizens a man who could always give a reason tor for his opinion and whose judgment was respected by all who knew him five years ago lie he met with a serious accident in which one of 0 his legs were smashed at that time likely from the accident a growth developed on his neck which continued to develop A year ago an operation was performed but that did not remedy the trouble from this source his hia system was poisoned which finally resulted in his bis death mr air christensen was born in denmark march 19 1866 he came to utah with his parents in 1870 making his home in this city where he has since resided ile he has been prominently identified with religious and industrial affairs here for many years ile he was recognized as one of our most efficient public men having a splendid understanding of parliamentary law hg he was a member of the city council of 1962 1992 3 and has been his bartys choice on other occasions at the organization in 1908 of the brigham fruit growers association mr christensen was made president and held the position until about a year ago when he was released upon his own request due to ill health he was one of the leading fault growers of this section and a recognized authority in this industry as well as general pruning in religious matters mr air christensen was a leader for many years he was superintendent of 0 the first ward sunday school he was waa also very active in al 1 I A work having filled ashert a short mission tor for that organization during late bearg hz has been at the head head of 0 the ath ward genealogical work he spent three years from 1896 1895 to 1898 in alabama of 0 the southern states mission he married MISS mas betie burt of salt lake city october 18 1899 and that union has been a very happy one home was a of love and a family has blessed that union which Is an honor to any community during our dreaded typhoid ep epidemic their oldest daughter hazel haxel died morley the oldest son is a third year student at the utah agricultural college and carlisle will be a high school graduate this year the othar surviving children are arc mrs R alee louise and florence christensen his wife mrs airs christensen and one sister mrs christena baird of this city also survive funeral services were held at the sixth ward chapel at 2 this afternoon under the direction of bishop E AT tyson interment was in the city cemetery |
