Show MAN DIES AT WILLARD yesterday some time between ten and noon A G thomas died in his room at the grandpre hotel in willard wallard Wll lard the cause ot of death is not known at this writing but the circumstances leading up to it were rather peculiar the deceased in company with a number ot of other men was boarding at the hotel and had breakfast as usual mush was part of the meal and thomas it seems used sugar from one sugar bowl while the other boarders took sugar from the bowl at the other end of the table thomas remarked that something tasted peculiar about the mush and he gently chided those about him for playing a joke on him some other members of the company it is reported also tasted the sugar but did not eat much of it because of the peculiar taste after breakfast the men went off to work but thomas did not feel well so stopped at the hotel he was last seen alive about 1030 by mr air grandpre whom he accosted as he went up to his room A little later he was found dead in his room his hands being folded upon his breast head back and mouth open there were no evidences of violence poison or ling of any kind but he was lying as it if in repose the sheriff was immediately notify notified and the officers made a trip down to investigate the circumstances county physician A L brown was taken along and he could find no evidences of violent death when the breakfast table was cleared off the sugar in the particular bowl from which thomas had helped him himself was emptied into the slop bucket the contents oi of which were fed to the pig in just a short time after the por porker ker got his dinner he showed signs of illness and ana not long after died in ill great agony the officers happened to be present when the pig died the stomach of the pig was taken however and the body of the man was removed to the stohl morgue this morning an autopsy was performed on the body by the county physician who removed the stomach deputy sheriff zundel took the mans stomach as well as that of the pig down to salt lake to have an analysis made by the state chemist to determine the cause of death the officers held a coroners jury as soon as they arrived on the scene and all the evidence that could be secured was taken the investigation was then continued until saturday next when a report from the state chemist can be had bad on the analysis made on the digestive organs of 0 the deceased man and animal from the statements made by thomas it appears he had several thousand dollars on deposit in the walker bros bank at salt like lake city he made statement to the hotel people substantiating stant lating it by showing stubs on his check book with the balances carried forward ile he also stated that he was waiting tor for a big bunch of 0 cattle which were to be delivered to him at wll wil lard any day he having received a post card advising him that the delivery would be made A telephone message to the bank at salt lake revealed healed d the tact fact that the man had no funds there it now develops that he wrote the post card to himself and was getting his room and board on the assumption that he had bad plenty of money and was a reliable character the man was evidently a take fake so tar far as he went but the manner of his death Is still a mystery which the officers are bending bendine every effort to unravel mr air grandpre stated that it looks like someone is after he and his family recently he lost a splendid barn and a number of blooded jersey cows cowa by fire which was started by some unknown parties now comes evidence of someone having placed poison in the family sugar bowl the matter will be thoroughly sifted and the responsibility placed it it possible |
