W. Crosby, president of Thiokol Chemical corporation; Harry Ferguson, vice president; Louis M. Sherman, manager of marketing development; and John Higginson, manager of the Elkton, Md.,' plant; made an inspection tour of the Box Elder site as well as others being considered as the headquarters for the soon to be established western division of the expanding company. - Today, Wednesday, President Crosby and Vice President Ferguson will meet with Western Division Manager Higginson to make an inspection tour of the plant now under construction, confer with chamber of commerce officials,, check on progress. Officials of the Thiokol company will find some big changes have been made when they visit the 11,600 acre site located 26 miles west of Brigham City. Since the contracts were let last fall, five structures have been built at the tests center which will be ready for an initial firing, probably ( late this month. Roads to the area, water and electrical lines have been built and are ready for use. In the manufacturing area, located a couple of miles away, 17 buildings are in various stages of construction, two of them, the oxydizer and igniter buildings being contracted only last contracts week. Construction for most of these buildings were let in February and March of this year. Sixteen company employes are on the payroll at the temporary Brigham City headquarters while two others are receiving training at Thiokol plants. Several others will transfer to the Western division headquarters during the month of May. Actual manufacturing processes at the solid rocket and missile fuel plant are expected to start in September or early October when there will be job openings for 50 or more new employees at the Thiokol plant, to bring the total to between 75 and 100. Additional employees are expected to be added later as plant facilities are expanded. , Wildlife Federation Sets Meeting The Box Elder Wildlife Federation will conduct their regular monthly meeting Tuesday evening, May 7, at 8 p. m., in the Chamber of Commerce rooms. Country, Canyon A film, will be shown, according to Sid Farnsworth, program chairman. All Federation members are invited to attend and bring their sons to see this entertaining and educational film. Required eye tests for license renewals are given on both days as are written and driver tests for those making application for permits and others who have let their licenses expire. Leo Nelson, vice president of First Security Bank of Brigham City, was elected to serve as president of the Box Elder Knife and Fork club for the coming year at the election meeting held last week. Elected to serve with him as vice presidents of the organization were Douglas Fife of Brigham City, and Jesse Day of Tremonton. Newly-electedirectors are Charles W. Claybaugh of Brigham City and A. N. Rytting of Tremonton. Completing the roster of directors are C. V. Forsgren, L. A. Richardson and Stella Young, whose terms end in 1958; J. S. Fruirj, Reed Nielsen and Lenora Romer, who will retire in 1959. d i" VFW Schedules District Meet Thursday Eve A district meeting for all VFW and Auxiliary members will be held Thursday evening, May 2, at 8 p. m., at the VFW hall at Corinne. New district officers will be installed during the evening and games and refreshments will be enjoyed. Included in this district are VFW t organizations from Brigham City, Corinne, Tremonton and Logan. All members and their partners are urged to attend, according to Leland L. Nelson. ypfy ' s Pocatello Man Hospitalized After Accident Local Grocer Warning About Sells Business Fireworks Here To Brigham Man Dell B. Fife, chief of police of Brigham City, and Sheriff Warren W. Hyde this week issued a warning to local merconchants and storekeepers cerning the sale of fireworks. The law reads as follows: It Is unlawful for any person, firm, partnership or corporation to offer for sale, expose for sale, sell, possess or use or explode any fireworks whatsoever. The local law enforcement officers report that every year the same warning has been issued, however, - a . few. merchants choose to ignore the warning and continue to seU fireworks, including firecrackers, toy cannons, torpedoes, sky rockets, roman candles, bombs, cherry bombs or any such items made up of explosives or inflammable compounds. , They also point out that In the past, serious injuries have been sustained by many children from use of fireworks. The officers emphasized this week that any person having any of these fireworks for sale will be arrested and charged for the offense. They explained that it Is lawful, however, to sell toy pistols, toy canes, toy guns and Idaho motorist . An received serious injuries Friday afternoon when his new 57 model car left the highway three miles north of Mantua while he was enroute to Salt Lake City, according to Sgt. Ed Pitcher of the State Highway Patrol. -Hugh D. MacCoshan, of 342 South Ninth street, Pocatello, was traveling south on Highway 91 when he dozed at the wheel, he told Sgt. Pitcher, and his car ran off onto the right shoulder of the highway, traveling distance of 650 feet, when it struck a projection in the mountainside and continued on an additional 120 feet before coming to a stop. At the time it struck the projection, it dislodged a large amount of rocks and soil, .which flew down the highway and struck a 1955 pickup truck driven by Merlin N. Boswell of Randolph, causing approximately $35 damage to the front end of the truck. MacCoshen, who had only driven his car a distance of 355 miles suffered since purchasing it, lacerations of the head as well as body bruises and was taken to the Cooley Memorial hospital- by ambulance. He was hospitalized at the local hospital until Tuesday afternoon, when he was released to return to Pocatello by ambu lance, Sgt. Pitcher reported. G. Nelson, Jr, which has been studying the matter and recommended ' the adopted schedule which applies to all employees of the district with the exception of bus operators. Another committee is making a study of a scale for drivers and will report later. According to board minutes, the minimum salary for certified teachers with no experience was set at $3,500, an increase of $350 over . the present $3,150 . scale. Annual increments of $75 were allowed for the first three years. This will increase to $110 for the next 14 years, followed by an $85 increase for the eighteenth year to make a total of $5,350. This compares with $4,350 on the present salary ' I 4 schedule. A masters degree will automatically provide a salary Increase of $200 at any time. This establishes an annual payment of $150 for a spouse who has not earned more than that amount during the previous year and also provides a $25' allowance for each child under 18 years of age who is totally .de, pendent. allowMaximum dependency - - ; ance is set at $300. .The new salary schedule was described as about average fo the state under recently. approved legislation with a few metropolitan districts offering a higher scale and some rural districts adopting lower standards.
