Show v.. r . 'a tired by 1962, and $110,000 on the 1950 ersonally peaking - There ByCWC wasnt exactly a quorum present, at the stock holders meetings of the Cox Elder County School district, Monday afternoon, called by the president and board of directors. Attending were seven hundredths of one percent of the 20,000 residents of the county, and to save you the arithmetic, that means 14. Anticipated in the 1951-5- 5 budget, but not yet approved by the board, is a small salary increase for teachers, bringing the minimum starting salary from the present $2,880 to $3,000 and the maximum after 20 years from the present $1,080 to $4,200. A special dependency payment would increase this on the average by $80. Whether or not your taxes next fall will be approximately the same or higher, based on the proposed budget, depends on what tax is imposed by the state for equalization that this will depend on revenue returns to the state from the special two cent cigarette tax, liquor tax and others. POPPY PROCLAMATION DAY WHEREAS : The memory of the sacrifices and service of our young manhood, who have fought and died on the battlefields of foreign soil is among Americas most precious possessions and each year the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion keep that memory bright by bringing to the people of America their memorial poppies; NOW THEREFORE, I, C. We taxpayers wouldnt stand for them shirking their duty. After all, theyre paid to look after our business affairs, the board members receiving a whopping big $12.50 check every month for running the two and a half million dollar corporation, less social security deduction of course. - Studied was the analysis of the present school budget and the proposed budget for the 1954-5- 5 operation. . Estimating expenditures to the end of the fiscal year, June 30, 1954, five accounts will be short on funds as budgeted last June, due largely to unanticipated changes made at the special session of the legislature last Decem- ber. These include general control, instruction, operation of plants, maintenance of plants and fixed charges. However, appropriations made at that time will take up most of the added costs as the accounts are balanced by transferring funds from unexpended accounts, so that the district will end the year with approximately $46,200 on hand in the general fund. - Completely separate aijd not to be used for any other purpose is the building fund with a carry over balance of around $45,000, a debt service fund of more than $9,400. The school lunch program which receives state and federal subsidies only, plus the payment received for meals served, will have a balance of $6,600. Bonded indebtedness of the district was given as $800,000. This includes $390,000 remaining on a 1945 issue which will be re- - Already established by the state is a 12 This added mill levy for local equalization. to the 4.95 mill local leeway tax, the 6.95 mill building fund levy and the 2.70 mill debt retirement levy will make a total of 26.60 mills as compared with 26.79 for the past year. Any substantial levy by the state for equalization would increase the overall school cost, but that is something over which the local board has no control. It was explained at the meeting that the 6.95 mill building fund levy would raise the needed funds, over a period of years, to pay for the projected addition at Lincoln school, addition at Bear River High school and a third elementary school for Brigham City to relieve the present congestion. Needed next year will be one additional teacher at Central and Lincoln in Brigham City, McKinley in Tremonton and Snowville, counselor plus the additional Box Elder at school, High employed already a total increase of five to care for the 215 classroom units in the district. coach-stude- nt Assessed valuation of the district was expected to remain the same at $37,472,487 so that one mill on the tax levy would raise $37,472 with 100 percent collection. The groups visited the Baron Woolen Mills, Carnegie Library and the Mountain States Tele- phone and Telegraph company. The students were delighted with the process which converted raw wool into beautiful blankets. They received a detailed and interesting talk on books by Miss LaPriel Wight, head librarian, and were Invited to use the library at any time, espesummer the during cially months. The telephone company proved most fascinating. They saw just what happened when they use their new dial telephones in Corinne. Upon completion of the trip the youngsters, teachers and visiting mothers declared it a most successful field trip.
