PARK CITY OPEN TOURNAMENT TO BE 8:15 P.M. - PLAYED SATURDAY & SUNDAY Playeirs In Two Flights Will Play Medal Score The Brigham City Open golf tournament for local amateurs will be staged this week-enat the municipal course,, according to Dean Candland, club professional. "This years tournament will be run differently than It has been run in the past, Candland stated. In the past the tournament has been rtm with qualifying rounds, match play and the finalists playing a 36 hole match for the winners spot. The change in this years program will find all entrants playing 36 holes of golf and the winner will be determined by medal score. The entire tournament will be over Sunday evening. There will be two flights in the tournament and handicaps up to 13 strokes will form the championship flight and handicaps over 13 will be placed in the first flight. Entrance fees will be $2.50 and starting times for play w'ill be assigned. Eighteen holes must be played Saturday afternoon and the final 18 holes played Sunday. All golfers interested in participating In the tournament must be entered by 12 oclock Thursday and the starting times will be announced in Fridays Journal. These changes are being made for two reasons," Candland said. The first reason is to speed up the play, which in the past has taken close to a month to complete. .This has prolonged the play so that the interest is lost By getting the play completed in two days, the Interest will be the highest In the history of the event. The second reason for the change is an effort to honor the best golfer, of the club, Match play does not always do this, Candland concluded, "because of the difference In the type of play. In match play a bad hole is lost, and then the player can win the next hole and be even. In Medal play, however, this situation is much different A player must keep as near to par as he can and a bad hole will make a golfer fight to get the lost strokes back in order to stay in the running. The prizes for the winner have not been selected as yet, because until all the entrance fees are collected the amount available to purchase the prizes will not be known. Candland stated, .However, we will have nice prizes, such d ko 30 o There drive. is a host of things that endear a to anyone who loves to Theres the might of its Fireball 8 Engine most powerful ever put in a Buick.
