Saute Vi Family tradition Daughters of Utah Pioneers attending the annual June Jubilee on Saturday, June 21, in Brigham City will be treated to an afternoon of special music provided by J. Stuart and Clara McMaster of Salt Lake City, both native of this area. The couples musical background extends back to their childhood days, and they have sung together for wed- funerals, dings, parties, missionary farewells, and family occasions so many times that they estimate that it might well average out at once a day since they started their duet appearances. They have also portrayed various parts in church productions and musicals. It is natural that the family is musical, since music is a family tradition extending back to pioneer times. Stuarts grandparents, Robert L. and Pricilla Noble Fishburn, fell in love as they crossed the plains with an English handcart company and sang for many occasions together, including having President Brigham Young in their audience. Clara sang her first song publicly at the age of four in Beaver Dam, where she was born as the youngest of 11 children to Joseph H. and Lydia Ella Hancock Watkins. The family moved to Brigham City, and it was here that the couple met and sang together as students in programs and Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. will feature couple spent on the stage in Salt Lake City theaters or in dining rooms of large hotels playing the banjo and trombone and singing popular songs of the Twenties. Daytime found him hard at work as a student of law at the University of Utah, and he was one of the early married students when he took Clara as his bride on June 17, 1927, in the Salt Lake LDS temple. He went on with music, teamed up with his wife, and studied to become a successful attorney. He joined the legal staff of the US bureau of Reclamation in 1934 and continued in higher responsibilities with the organization. The couple has both been active in the LDS church, and Clara has worked in all of the auxiliaries. In addition, she has succeeded in having 20 songs for children published after trying them out first on her own four children. For the past 20 years, she has been a member of the soprano section of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and thinks her most exciting memory with that group was singing a small solo part accompanied by the Philadelphia Symphony. At the Daughters of Utah Pioneers event, the McMasters will entertain with songs from their heritage and favorites of their own. The program will include a variety of songs as well as talks on appreciation of pioneer ancestors. Also appearing on the musical program will be the county camp chorus presenting three vocal numbers. Prizes will be announced for the camps with the most members present and the most new members gained during the past year and a drawing for a quilt will be held. The June Jubilee will begin with lunch at 12 noon in the Community Center. Each camp in South Box Elder county wilL provide their own lunch and A MUSICAL HERITAGE will be presented by J.
