Verlaine This is a letter of warning to keep you from making the same mistake I made. You see, Im one of the many people around town who have a driveway that I cannot drive in and out of of my car. without scraping the rear-en- d If, for any reason, I have to attach a trailer hitch, I cant get in and out at all. So, in the process of pouring a new driveway, I decided to try and remedy this. I talked to Floyd Anderson about it and explained what I intended to do and he said it sounded like a good idea to him. I did not, however get an official permit to put it in. This was mistake No. 1, and definitely the wrong thing to do. Instead I went ahead and had a metal culvert put in to carry the water (down to the Fourth South storm sewer that is always clogged, but that is another story) and covered4it with a nice thick layer of cement, all reinforced with steel rod so it would hold. This made a nice firm bridge to drive in and out over. This was done on Friday and on Monday, Jack Hamilton was here to tell me it had to be taken out, it was illegal, and he asked to see the permit I didnt have. He said, however, that I couldnt have obtained one anyway, because the ones around town that have been allowed are such a hindrance to their road work. It seems that they are much more difficult to drive the sweeper and snow grader, etc., around than the hundreds of cars that are always parked in the street. So you people around town who have such conveniences as bridges over your curb and gutter, and lawns on your parking that the city mows and waters, but thats another story too, consider yourselves very fortunate, and the rest of ou dont make the mistake I did. Its very frustrating and also very expensive. Firt you pay to have your new convenience put I drove in an out a few times in, (by the way just tc see how nice it was) and then it costs three times that much to have it taken out again. By the way, this is an extremely dry season, but dont be afraid to pray for rain, because even if we have the great flood again and you are cnjght without your ark, you can just inflate juur emergency life raft and float merrily down that nice deep gutter, so conveniently provided for you by the Brigham City Engineering Dept. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.
