Show Brigham City, Utah Thursday, January 20, 1972 10 Bear River Reports First Baptist BOX ELDER JOURNAL, teachers and officers are reminded that there will be a teaching-traininclinic on Jan. 27 and 28. The clinic will be conducted at the First Baptist church of Granger, beginning on 9 a.m. on Thursday, and at 10 a.m. on Friday. Evening sessions on both days will begin at 7 p.m. There will be no afternoon sessions. Members of First Baptist church are also urged to make plans to attend the annual Evangelism conference in Salt Lake City. The conference will begin on Sunday evening, Jan. 30, at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City. The other conference sessions will be held at First Southern Baptist church in Salt Lake City, on Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 31 and Feb. 1. This Sunday, Jan. 23, is Baptist Mens Day. The observance will begin at 8 a.m. with breakfast for all men and young men. The Red Baron restaurant will be the site of the breakfast. The meal is dutch-trea- t. Men will be leading the services at the church during the day. The program is under the direction of Claude Joscelyn, director of Baptist Willard Reports Sunday school g Notices The visiting minister at Cooley Memorial hospital for the week of Jan. 24 through Jan. 30 will be Walter Mason. Mason is pastor of the Aldersgate Methodist church. The visiting minister will contact churches who have members as patients. Churches are asked to note that there is a change in the place for taking church news each week. Instead of taking the news to First Baptist church, the news should be taken to the Community church. Presbyterian The news should be left pastor of the Christian Reformed church of Chula Vista, Calif., will be the conference speaker. Childrens Bible classes are held regularly on Tuesdays at 3:45 p.m. All children of age three and through the sixth grade are welcome. Veenstra, Ecumenical at the church by 10 a.m. each Tuesday. It may be dropped in the mail slot, if no one is at the church. Holy Cross Lutheran Sunday, Jan. 23, our regular worship service will be at 9 a.m., with the Rev. Dale Johnson preaching. At 5:30 p.m. members of the congregation will have a potluck supper, to be 7 folowed at approximately p.m. by the annual meeting of the congregation. Activities for the week include CMC weekday church school on Tuesday at 3:45 p.m., This classes Confirmation Tuesday, at 4 p.m., and Church Of Christ We invite you to listen to KBUH radio at 9:30 a.m. for the message entitled: "The Church Was Established in the Days of the Apostles." Bible study will convene at 10 a.m. with classes for all ages. We are emphasizing the need for a deeper study of God's word. The emphasis will be practical, aimed at how to improve personal Christian living. The last session will be at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The purposes of the weekend is "celebrating our unity in Christ, exploring and sharing in small groups the meaning of our faith and looking toward ways of living that faith in the reality of today's world. Members of all faiths are invited to participate. Sunday service at Aldersgate at 9 a.m. High school youth meet at the church at 6:30 p.m. Those who participate in the CMC youth activities go to Gillespie Hall at 7:30 p.m. Families of the church are invited to participate in the snow party sponsored by the Mariners club on Sunday afternoon. At 12:30 a.m. in Gillespie Hall a potluck dinner is planned for fun and fellowship. There will be potluck on vegetables, salads and dessert. Meat furnished for a small fee. Place is the tubing hill above Mantua at 3 p.m. or meet at the Evan Days, 509 Highland Blvd. at 2:30 p.m. for directions. The entire family is invited to come out for an afternoon of fun. Seventh and eighth grades meet at Holy Cross Lutheran church. pre-scho- New Arrivals Spark Announces Workshop Plans PTA Local News Items By Mrs. Irving Christensen Richard and Juantia Jensen announced the safe arrival of a baby girl born Saturday Jan. 19 at the Cooley Memorial hospital. The new baby weighed la at eight pounds two ounces, the has a five year old brother. The proud grandparent are Mr. and Mrs. Howard Warren of Brigham City and Mr. and Mre. R.M. (Teak) Jensen of Bear River City. Major Surgery Arva Miller had major surgery at the Logan LDS hospital last Thursday. Her mother Sine Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Kay Bruton and Artel Brailsford visited her Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Romaine Jensen was a Salt Lake City visitor on Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Burton Anderson were in Ogden last Thursday and Friday. Mary S. Anderson left Monday afternoon for a short visit in California. Bob Jensen from Spanish Fork called on relatives and friends here the first part of last week. Oleen Nicholas spent several days last week in the hospital with pneumonia. Lea Joy Duncan entertained some of her friends Friday night at a slumber party. A baby boy weighing eight pounds one ounce was born to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lucas at the Cooley Memorial hospital last Thursday Jan. 13. He has been named Brett Alan and has a brother Craig and two sisters Julie and Lori to help take care of him. Grandparents The grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Homer Cotter of Howell and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lucas of Richland, Wash. Lori is staying in Howell with her grandmother Cotter for a few days. Mrs. Kent Jensen and Mrs. Leslie Jensen attended a shower at the home of Kathy Nelson in Mantua last Friday night in honor of Miss Connie Miller a bride of this week. They also attended a bruch in Ogden Saturday at the home of Mrs. Maurine Redd honoring the bride to be. Mr. and Mrs. Preston Checketts and children from Salt Lake City visited relatives here over the weekend. Mrs. Mitzi Nessler entertained at a birthday dinner Thursday night in honor of her husband Richards birthday on Saturday, his mother Noias birthday on Sunday and his sister Sandras birthday on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Brailsford and Mr. and Mrs. Gary Jones visited relatives in Salt Lake City on Saturday. Artist Festival Those taking part at the young Artists Festival held on Tuesday night of last week were song by Susan and Kami Jenson by Robyn accompanied Holmgren; piano solo, Trudie Anderson; piano duet, Susan and Julie Ramsdell; Flute trio, Lori Roberta Huggins, Nickolaisen and Marilyn Ackerman accompanied by Marilyn Hendrickson; piano solo, Donna Nickolaisen; clarinet duet, Christine Burt and Marinna Braegger and a piano solo by Stephanie Gardner. Richard and Mitzi Nessler enjoyed a dinner party in Brigham City Saturday night given for the employees, employers and partners of the Bear River Valley Co-op. Seminary Class Brother Bensons seminary class from Box Elder High school presented the program in Sacrament' meeting Sunday night. Birthday dinner guests at the Dick Nessler home last Sunday were Carrie and Irving Christensen and Richard and Mitzi Nessler. Daughters of Utah Pioneers Bear River camp held their meeting Friday at the home of Carrie J. Christensen after which a delicious luncheon was served to Ruby Anderson, Della Lola Beth Christensen, Ramsdell Myrtle Mortensen, Andrea Huggins and Gertrude Iverson by Doliie Iverson, Flossie Carrie Gladys Thorsen attended at Sacrament meeting Tremonton First ward Sunday night when Ross Ballard son of Denzel and Beth Ballard was one of the speakers. Ross is leaving in the near future for an LDS mission with headquarters in Oregon. Friends and relatives called at the Ballard home after meeting to wish him success in his new calling. Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Ramsdell accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Munns and sons Tom and Lance of Garland to Salt Lake City Sunday where they were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Erving. Is Improving Clair Holmgren son of Mr. and Mrs. Parley Holmgren is improving after having an appendictomy at the Cooley hospital last week. and Afton Koford Oscar Tremonton and Rita and Ike Anderson visited the beautiful Valley Fair Mall at Granger Saturday then stopped in Ogden for supper on their way home. of of Christensen Randy Palmer, Alaska boarded an airplane early last Friday morning at Anchorage, Alaska and landed at the Salt Lake airport at 11:30 a.m. the same morning where his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Mark Garrett met him and took him to their home in Brigham City. E.F. Watts Visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jay Warren Pierce were Mrs. Rhoda Pierce, Jays mother from Oklahoma City, Okla., and their son HM-- 2 Jay Warren Pierce Jr. who is stationed at Oklahoma City as a Navy recruiter. The two flew by plane by way of Denver, Jan. 2 and stayed nine days. This was the first plane trip for Mrs. Pierce and the first time she has seen snow on the mountains. Family Dinner Michael Holmes son of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Holmes was guest of honor at a family dinner at the Blue Ox in Roy on his 11th birthday. Following the dinner his father and three guests Bart Braegger, Jay Zundel and Alan Chambers spent the evening bowling with him. The PTA announces that the work shop set for Wednesday, Jan. 19 has been changed to Friday, Jan. 21 at 9 a.m. They will be making educational aids for the second and third grades and all interested are invited. The Willard School PTA on Thursday night Jan. 13 featured Dr. Harvey Wheelright noted psychologist from Ogden. Ruth Harding's third grade won the chipmunks for this month. To Chicago Don (DeRae) Christensen left Wednesday Mrs. morning to fly back to Chicago to be with her son and daughter-in-laMr. and Mrs. Louis Christensen who had a new baby boy born Wednesday morning Jan. 19. Mr. and Mrs. Garrett took Randy to Rexburg, Idaho Sunday where he will attend Ricks college for two years then plans on finishing his college at the BYU in Provo. third child they have two little girls. and Mrs. Verden Mr. Chambers received word Sunday of the death of Verdens mother Mrs. L.C. (Carol) Chambers of Paul Idaho. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold (Gloria) Kunzler and daughter Temmy moved from Willard to Burley, Idaho to make their home. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Braegger returned home on Sunday after a trip to Los Angeles where they met their son Kirk who was enroute home from the New Zealand South mission where he has served for the past two years. The three of them attended session in the Los Angeles LDS temple and traveled to Oakland to visit the temple there. Women in the Willard area are invited to attend the charter meeting of TOPS Inc. which will be held Thursday afternoon (today), Jan. 20 at 4 p.m. at the home of Maurine Widdison at 330 West Center Street.
