Included in this impressive total are 19 blocks of new construction, put in by city street crews the summer during months, most of it now completed. on This includes two blix-kFourth West from Third to Fifth North, eight blocks on Fifth North from Third East to Fifth West, three blocks on Third East from Third North to Sixth North, one block on Eighth East from First to Second North, one block on First North from Fifth to Sixth West, and a new road and widening project of four blocks on Third South from First to Fifth East. Included also are 56 blocks of seal coat, bids for which were opened by the city council at their meeting last night. This will include First and Secomd East and First and Second West from Seventh South to Seventh North. B and C road funds are derived principally from license lees and gasoline tax returned, to the cities and counties by the state for improvement of secondary streets- and roads, Councilman Glen Hurt, who is in charge of the Street department, explains Supervising the construction work is Tracy Larsen, superintendent of streets and water, assisted by Roy Simonsen. Dallas Jeppsen, Dan Davis, A1 Andersen, Theron Jensen and Leon Gilbert. Included in the 1954 street program has been a considerable amount of curb and gutter work with corresponding widening of the street pavement, Burt pointed out. This can be done only when adjoining property owners petition to create an improvement district, several more of which are now in the process of being formed. Right now is a good time to create such districts, it was pointed out, so that budget provisions can be made to include them in the 1955 street im-- i provement program. While it is possible to bond the district to do the work, the most satisfactory arrangement is to anticipate the amount of funds needed and include them in the tax budget for the following year. The city council, of course, has no estimate on the amount of such improvement work desired until the petitions are received and when the budgeted funds are spent or appropriated, other projects must be held up until money again is available for another fiscal years Will Brigham City, Utah Friday, August 20, 1954 Schedule Meet In September Author Richard Armour poet and political satirist, presently in France writing on a Ford Foundation fellowship, will return to America in time to appear at the Roundup of the in Writers League of I'tah Provo on September 10 12 Dr Armour a will address general session and conduct a poetry workshop on September 11 and will read prize winning poems hy Utahns at a break-.fasthe next day.
