According to minutes of a recent meeting the commissioners took $150,000 county money, that would otherwise ldy Idle in the bank until later in' tihe year when it would be used, and invested it for 90 days Jn U. S. Treasury bills. At (1.70 per cent interest it adds the tidy sum to the county treasury. The investment, never before made by the county, was done at the suggestion of County Treasurer Boyd ' M. Sheffield, who today added that it is hoped by investing earlier next year the county will reap near $2,000 by the perfectly safe method. The money Invested is not Treasurer Sheffield surplus," emphasized, it Was collected in March of this year as taxes and will be spent by the end cif the year for regular county The money is simply put to the people of the counit'is waiting to be spent later. The Treasury bills were purchased June 26 and will be redeemed September 25. Other recent actions of the county commissioners include a pay hike for county road workers and tmert in the noxious weed department. At a meeting (June 9, with employees at the county road , shed Commissioner George Davis announced a new wage scale. The superintendent will receive $271 per month; mechanics, $1.65 an hour; carpenters, $1.53; 'graders, $1.45 and truck drivers, $1.35. Also at the meeting the commissioners revealed the county could not help with an insurance plan for the men. The road one employees will receive week vacation each year with pay.
