The bill would Increase the basic beet sugar quota by 750,. from the present 000 tons 2.650.000 tons to 3,400,000. At the urging of the Depart- ment of Agriculture, which removed production restrictions, the domestic beet sugar Increased production by 500.000 tons In 1963, Senator Moss said. It Is expected to go up another 250,000 tons this year, and unless additional marketings are provided, our estab-Ushe- d sugar beet growers will face a cut up to 40 percent In acreage, he said. It would be very unfair to thus penalize present growers who did contribute to the nat. tonal sugar supply when the need was great, he said. Senator Moss said that the bill will bring the amount of beet sugar that can be marketed Into line with the amount which can be produced.
