Senator Wallace F. Bennett, ranking Republican member of the Senate Finance committee said the committees revision will be a much more equitable distribution for a majority of the states. Larger Portion revision provides a larger portion of the $29.8 billion designated for revenue sharing over a five year period to slightly urbanized and rural areas rather than reserving the bulk of the funds for the states with large urban areas, Senator Bennett said. He gave these figures for Box Elder county. Box Elder county area, $707,248; Box Elder county government, $455,136; total to all county city governments, $214,299. In specifying amounts to cities, the senator gave these figures: Brigham City, $138,125, and Tremonton $42,696. The figures, which were just released by The committee Can? rJait The grandchildren of George Buckley, 536 South First West, cant wait to taste these huge cantelopes grown by their grandfather. Although some of the smaller towns and communities are not listed they have been provided for under the revenue sharing formula, he said. Brigham City Mayor Olof Zundel said, We hope this bill will pass. The measure provides more money for Brigham City, the previous amount being about $76,000. This new formula, which I introduced to the committee, means that Utah will receive approximately $34.5 million the first year in shared revenue as opposed to the $29 million allotted in the House bill, he said. States such as California, New York, New Jersey and others will have their allotments reduced from the House allowance. The The Utah lawmaker explained, House bill computed each states share on the basis of five factors: state population; urbanized population; state and local per pounds. income; general state and local tax effort; and state and local income tax effort. capita The Senate Finance committee provision deals only with three factors: state population, per capita income and state and local tax effort. I believe this new formula is more equitable and eliminates much of the problem of funds going to wealthier areas in larger cities which was a factor under the urbanization consideration in the House bill, he said. It was the decision of the committee that the funds available to a state should not depend on whether the population lives in an urban or rural area. This will provide additional funds to other states like Utah which have a relatively low per capita income and largely rural population, he said. The senator explained that the formula for sharing revenue with the localities and municipalities which will receive roughtly s of the shared funds, will be on the same basis as the allocation to state (Continued on Page Three) two-third- Sheriffs deputies have been in contact with other law enforcement agencies in neighboring states concerning the missing girl.
