Show CREATION OF LIBRARY AT BINGHAM PROPOSED; TOWN BOARD WILL CALL ELECTION ON FUND Tax Levy of Between One-half Mill and One Mill Will be Sought to Raise Money Necessary to Establish Es-tablish Library; Civic clubs are Sponsoring Campaign Cam-paign for Institution. Civic Club loaders Wednesday laid before the town board a proposition to establish a library in Bingham. This has been a pet idea of the clubs for sometime and it is now believed the necessary support can be gathered to put the propostion over. Under the state law 10 per cent of the taxpayers of the community com-munity can petition the town board to make provision in the budget bud-get for a library fund. It then becomes the duty of the town board to call a special election to approve or disapprove the proposition. The statutes provide that not more -than one mill tax on the assessed valuation val-uation of the town can be levied for this purpose. It is believed by members of the board that it will not be necessary to levy a tax of one mill, but that smaller amount than this will supply adequate funds to get the proposition underway. The exact amount of the levy was taken under consideration by the board and ita findings will be submitted at the next meeting. The Bulletin after sounding out a number of leading citizens of the com-munity, com-munity, is confident that such a proposition prop-osition will meet with the approval of the taxpayers and that before long; Bingham will have a public library, which will be the equal of any in the state, based on population. It is not imbrobable that if such a fund can be raised, that sufficient money mon-ey can be secured from some source other than taxation to construct a suitable building. A public library is something Bingham Bing-ham has needed for' a number - of years and such a proposition should receive the hearty support of every public spirited citizen in the community. |
