Show PRECIPITATES We have confidence in the ability of Governor Blood in finding some solution to the strike situation that seems to have reached an impasse. im-passe. For the Miners and their families the end of the fourth week of strike without work or pay means almost desperation. It is hoped that the offer of the Governor's office to assist in negotiation ne-gotiation for settlement will finally final-ly be the means to an ending of this enforced Idleness and suffering. Locally. For the first time in many elections elec-tions there were no third party votes cast in Highland Boy, former home of a bloc of Communistic supporters. Lark and District 335, Bingham, voters also divided all their ballots between candidates of two major parties. One vote in Copperfield Cop-perfield went to A. L. Porter, the Socialist candidate for governor. District 334 had the heaviest Socialist Social-ist vote in Precinct 10 with 4 votes j gofog to Norman Thomas and 10 to' J. L. Hansen, the congressional candidate on that ticket. Three Communist Com-munist votes were garnered in this district and one Union vote. Cop-perton Cop-perton election judges recorded one Socialist vote out of the 234 ballots cast there. One of the surprises of the election elec-tion to party workers in Bingham was the vote given Governor Blood. Even the most optimistic of th Democratic chiefs felt that Peery was strong in this precinct. Final count showed Peery with 290 votes as compared to 1265 for Blood and 510 for Dillman. In General. This election will go down in histry as memorable for many reasons. rea-sons. One certainty is that it has disproved the accuracy of any straw poll in reflecting trends of opinion. The Digest and country newspaper poll were far off in result re-sult predictions, and even the "scientific "sci-entific sampling" of the Institute of Public Opinion failed to mirror the temper of general political leaning. lean-ing. Before placing any cash on bets made on the strength of a straw poll, it's a wise idea to size up sweep stake ticket odds, and even look into the possibilities of horse race winnings. O |
