OIL CONDITIONS CONSIDERED GOOD From present indications it is ap-parent that within the next twelve months Utah is to know whether she is to be numbered Miming the oil producing states, as the present in-dications scent to point toward a thorough exploration of the known oil structures, and besides, a number of what might justly be termed "wild cat" operations. And, by the way, we might state that the Use of the word "wild cat" in connection with oil wells, is not accepted as an indi-cation of unreliability, or of ques-tionable procedure, but used in with oil wells it simply means that the well is being drilled on territory. The operations at the Crescent Kagle ,the Cisco wells, and now the big gasser at Vernal, all seem to in-dicate that the efforts in these lo-calities will be successful. The Cres-cent Kagle is now down a little over yn) feet, and reports the hole full of oil. On the very top of this struc-ture the Sandburg Petroleum-Co- . re-port their well drilling at 400 feet, and everything working smoothly. This company has built seven miles of road from Floy to the well, has built a comfortable camp for their men, has installed heavy drilling equipment and are now making A 20 inch hole. This well has been started with the same preparation as if it were to go 7000 feet, but according to geologists who have examined the property for the company the probable depth of the hole will be in the neighborhood of .1000 feet. The Sandburg Petroleum Company of Utah is backed by the Sandburg Petroleum Co. of Califor-nia- k who arc a producing company in the Signal Hill field, which insures the completion of the well regardless of the amount of stock sold. The company reports their campaign is movingalong satisfactorily, and that Bingham Canyon has responded very nicely, there being quite a large num-ber of residents of lfingham who have subscribed accord;ng to their ability. Committee INFANT SON DIES The infant son of Mr, and Mrs. John Levantis of Copperficld, who died Tuesday was buried from the O'Dotincll funeral parlors Wednes-day afternoon. April Fool Many attempts have been made to account for "All Fool's day" or "jprll Pool day." The most satisfactory ex-planation seems' to be us follows: Before the Kuglish changed their calendar In 17.'2 the legal yeur began March 23 Insteud of January 1. Most nil of the feast "days and festivals were originally celehrated eight days, April 1 was the octave or eighth day after New Yeur'a day, March 23. It win therefore the day on which th New Year festival reached the high-est point and ended. The Komim festival known as the "Feast of Foola" on t'etiruary- 17 inuy have Influenced April Fool, because on that day the Komuns also played tricks end prur tlcal Jokes. The Hindus have a spring festival on March 81. Horn huve tried to connect "All Pool's day" with the mock trial of Christ, but ttu connection la probably only Imaginary.
