Last Wednesday, October 10th, Region One and Four prep teams participated in games due to the U.E..A. weekend. Bonneville, Layton, and Ben Lomond each were victorious in the games while Clearfield, Roy, Weber, and Ogden suffered setbacks. Prep teams will suit up Thursday, October 18th for region battles in both regions. Weber travels to Bonneville for a 4 p.m. game; Roy goes on the road to Sky View for a game that starts at 3:30 p.m.; and Layton will find itself at Clearfield for another 4 p.m. game. In Region Four, Logan travels to Bear River for a 7:30 game, Ben Lomond visits Davis for another night game and Box Elder will play Ogden at Ogden in an afternoon contest. non-leag- non-leag- Fight for One foes that he is ready again for to explode. Region state berths Four teams from Region One wQl have a shot at making it to the 1979 state football playoffs this season. The remaining two games will be crucial in helping to determine who represents the region. Sky View is presently riding high and is undefeated in Region One. This week the Bobcats tackle winless Roy. A win here could pretty well sew up Sky View's chances of making it to the state playoffs, if not securing their chances at taking the Region One title. Only Layton remains on the Bobcats schedule after the Roy contest. The Bobcats are presently 30 in Region One. The Royals have yet to win in Region One and suffered a setback to Alta last week on the road. The Hawks scored a 180 win over Coach Ernie Jacklin' s crew, now 5 on the season. A bright spot in the Royal's future seems to be in sophomore quarterback, 'Wade Jacklin. Jacklin threw strike for Roy's only touchdown against Alta, a to Chris Jensen. Toby Phillips added the point after. 2-- rd Lakers still have shot Bonneville's only loss of the season has come from the hands of Sky View. Despite the loss the Lakers aren't counting their chances out to win the region title. This week they take on Weber in an always classic rivalry contest. Even though the Warriors have lost some close ones in the past and stand 5 overall, Coach Hal Lewis' squad will be up for this contest, knowing they still have a shot at a playoff berth. Bonneville got back on the winning track last week by demolishing Granger and avenging the defeat they suffered last season in the state playoffs. Hie Lakers won 31-- 2. Speedster Mike Smith was the big name for the day as he returned a pair of punts for touchdowns, one of 65 yards and another of 55. Junior quarterback Cory Sylvester passed 35 yards to Gilbert BaDingham for another score. Marvin Ellis kept his touchdown siring alive by scoring on 30 yard run. Ted Rickard foind the uprights from 18 yards out for a field goal and added four extra points. Game to Watch Probably the most classic confrontations this week in Region One will be the Lancer-Falco-n clash in Clearfield. When these two teams battle, anything can happen. Layton won their game last week by clipThe Falcons, however, dropped ping Hillcrest theirs, losing 23-- to powerful Brighton. Running back Dave Burke ran for 192 yards against the Huskies and scored three touchdowns in the process. The Layton star has gradually picked up momentum as the season has progressed. Some household names around Clearfield again were standouts on defense and they included Kevin Tracy, Dean Vernon, Greg Ridler, and Kevin Neville. Their first game will be against the Region 2 No. 3 team or Region 3s No. 3 team. The rest of the region finishers will have playoffs to enter the state finals. The No. 2 team in the region will end up playing Region 2's No. 4 team while the No. 3 team in Rrgion One will play off with Region 3's No. 4 squad. Finally, the No. 4 finisher in Region One will playoff with Region 2's No. 2 team to see who makes it to the state playoffs. Ogdon still has a chanco Coach Dave Brown's Ogden crew still has a cnance of making it to the state playoffs, but a win over Box Elder would surely help their situation. Nov 5 on the season, Ogden dropped a game to Marlon Frazier notched the Tiger's only touchdown, run. Coach Brown mentioned coming off a Sterling Yea man, Joe Leonard!, Ross Veflinga, Todd Stringham, Greg Hyde, Chris Call, Chris Miller and John Medina as having good games. 2-- 25-yar- Bon Lomond finally wins The Scots of Ben tamand will try for their second win of the season as they travel to Davis Thursday . Their first victory came last week when they defeated Tooele 194.
